アメリカ合衆国カルフォルニア州 Patriot High Schoolに留学中の 上野　莉奈さんからの第２回目のレポートです。

 

みなさん！お元気ですか？カリフォルニア州に留学中の上野莉奈です。前回のレポートからもう三ヶ月が経ち、とっても驚いています。南カリフォルニアはマイナスの気温になることはありません。昼間などは普通に２０度近くになります。この気候がとっても過ごしやすいと言われていますが、札幌のような気候が恋しいです。寒いところにいる方は健康管理をしっかりとして、風邪を引かないようにしてくださいね。あったかい格好をしてください！

 

第二回目のテーマは、『学校生活について』です。私が通う、ペイトリオットハイスクールは約3000人が通うスクールです。全校生徒の約８０％がメキシコ人です。先生もスペイン語で生徒に受け答えする姿を毎日見ます。私は、スペイン語の授業は取っていませんが、友達から多くのスペイン語を学んだので、少し話せるようになりました。私が取っている授業は、１）アメリカ政治　２）合唱　３）バスケットボール　４）ASB　５）数学　６）英語　です。　合唱とバスケは息抜きの授業です。合唱ではピアノを担当したりしています。とっても楽しいです！前もバスケ部に向けてコメントを書いたのですが、バスケはそんなに難しくないですし、バスケのルールを知らない子が多いです。私が時々審判なども担当しています。なので、この２つの教科に関しては成績バッチリです。次にASBについてなんですが、なにこれ？って、思う人がほとんどだと思います。これは日本でいう生徒会みたいなものですね。主に学校で行われるイベントの企画、運営を行います。フットボールやバスケットボールの試合に合わせて、ポスターを作ったり、その試合のカラーを決めて宣伝したり、先生方に誕生日カードを届けたりなど。活動は至って真面目です。数学ですが、やはり簡単です。先生もわかってくれているので、ここにいる私のジャパニーズの女の子に聞きなさい！って、他の生徒に言ってくれます。嬉しいですが、説明が難しいのでいい勉強になっています。英語とアメリカ政治が何よりも難しいです。アメリカ政治に関しては、毎日二時間はかかる宿題を出され、２週間ごとに提出します。１週間に一回必ずテストがあります。この教科に一番時間がかかってしまって、最終的にわからない単語などを十分に調べられずに終わってしまうことが多いのです。英語はパソコンを使い、動画や記事などを見てサマリーを作ります。それでその後にテストがあります。本当に難しいので、電子辞書を活用しまくってテストを受けてなんとかFにならないようにしています。もっと勉強しなければと感じています。私の授業はこんな感じです！

 

友達についてなんですが、本当にいい友達ばかりです。一緒に泣いてくれる友達もいますし、ここでの生活を誰よりも楽しんで欲しいって言ってくれて、いろんなところに誘ってくれるお友達もいます。私のつたない英語を一生懸命理解しようとしてくれて、感謝しかないです。学年に関係なく、みんな仲良くしてくれて嬉しいです。私の中で思ったことは、みんな褒め言葉をよく使います。その服好きだよ！とか、靴かわいいね！とか。とにかく、話したことがない子も褒めてくれます。それはすごくいいことだと思います。けど、嫌なことも大きい声で言います（笑）日本では我慢が美徳だという文化みたいなものがあると私は思います。自分のことを後回しにして、他人に尽くすことは難しいことであり、素晴らしいことだと思っています。しかし時には自分をしっかりと表現することが必要だと感じました。ここでの生活は一生に一度のものですし、誰もができるわけではありません。家族や先生方、友達に感謝を忘れずに、私らしく、精一杯楽しんで帰ろうと思っています。

 

ここまで読んでいただいてありがとうございました。もうアメリカに来て五ヶ月が経ちました。本当に早いです。今は焦りも感じてきています。どこまで自分が頑張れるかだと思っています。めげずに頑張って行きたいと思います！

Hey, guys!  I’m Marina Ueno and stay in California. It has been 3 months since I write my previous report. I was scared because of the time flown. Even now, it is hot in southern California. I hate this climate, I miss the climate of Sapporo. I guess people who live in Sapporo don’t like the cold because I used to hate the cold. If you are in a cold area, please wear warm clothing like a jacket. Don’t get sick!

 

The second theme is “School Life”. The name of my school is Patriot high school and they have 3,000 students. 80% of them are Mexican so most students and teachers can speak Spanish. I don’t take a Spanish class, but I learn Spanish from my friends so I can speak Spanish a little bit. I take 6 classes, American Government, Choir, Basketball, ASB (student government), Mathematics and English. I like choir and basketball because I can get grades easily lmao. At the choir, I sometimes accompany the songs, I enjoy it.  Also, at the basketball class, I’m sometimes a referee. Now, I will talk about ASB. Almost all people who are reading this report have a question about this class. This is like a student council. We plan and run the event of school. There are making posters for the game like football, advertising the color of the game and making the birthday cards for teachers. Our activities are extremely serious. You know mathematics is easy.  the math teacher knows the Japanese are good at math so the teacher tells the students “You should ask my Japanese students.” I feel honored to be asked questions from students though, it’s hard to explain the answers to questions.  English and the American government are the most difficult classes I take. I take 2 hours for homework of the American government and I submit them every 2 weeks. Also, I take a test every week. I spend too much time on the American government so finally, I couldn’t research the vocabularies. I’m sure I should consult vocabulary more for the dictionary. In my English class, I use a laptop and see the video or article then make a summary about them. after that, I take a test. These classes are extremely hard for me.  Just study hard!!!

 

              I will tell about my friends. I have nice friends to cry with me and say “I hope you will spend an awesome life of a study abroad.” Even now, my English skill is sucks. However, they try to understand what I want to tell. I appreciate it. Also, I realized one thing that Americans use compliments a lot. For example, “Your outfit is adorable!”. They use compliments to even stranger. I like it. However, they complain loudly. In Japan, I have never seen that people complain loudly in front of somebody. I think we have the culture that patience is a virtue. It is beautiful to concern for others, but the Japanese sometimes do too much. I feel we need to advocate ourselves sometimes. I know just a few people can experience studying abroad. I will never forget the appreciation of my family, friends, teachers and host family. I try to enjoy my studying abroad. I don’t forget to study, don’t worry…

 

Thank you for reading my report! It’s already gone for 5 months, it was early. Also, I feel impatience.  I will try to do my best.
