こんにちは、みなさん。アーカンソーから２回目のレポートを送ります。２か月前のレポートを出せなくてごめんなさい。そして、今回のレポートの提出も２週間遅れてしまいました。

まず最初に、学校生活についてお話しますね。学校生活はこれまでのところ本当に楽しいですが、現在忙しいです。というのも、合唱で全地区合唱をやっている からなんです。これは私が中央アーカンソーで６０人しか選ばれないソプラノに選抜されたんですよ。そういうわけで、フットボールの試合で国歌を歌う機会に も恵まれました。会場には約２,０００人の観客。その前で歌えたことを自分で誇らしく思います。次の合唱フェスティバルではソロで歌う予定です。今からワ クワクしています。お知らせしたいことがあります！！学校の水泳チームに入りました！練習は毎回大変ですが、このチームがとっても好きです。たとえ水の中 では声援は聞こえないとしても、チームのみんなはお互いを応援します。Cabot高校の水泳チームは今までで一番素敵な人たちだと思います。みんなとって も優しいんです！！！もしみんなの応援がなければ、私のタイムは落ちてしまうことでしょう。あと二回試合がありますので、頑張ります。勉強について少しお 話しします。いまだに宿題を終えるのに苦労しています。毎回の授業でたくさんの宿題が課されますし、その課題がだんだん難しくなってきています。授業を変 更しました。Algebra2をPre Calculusに、ChemistryをPre AP Chemistryに変更しました。新しくした授業は以前とっていた授業よりも数倍難しいですが、その分だけついていこうとして勉強の意欲が高まります。 その意味で、授業を変えたことは良い選択だったと思います。

次に私が週末にいつもやっていることについてお話します。ファミリーや友達と一緒に過ごせるので、週末が好きです。（まあ、みんな週末が好きだとは思いま すが（笑））たいていは私が日本食をファミリーに作ってあげています。ありがたいことに、ファミリーは日本食を気に入ってくれて、褒めてくれます。そのよ うなわけで私は料理をすることが好きです。友達とぶらぶらとしていることも多いです。映画・ショッピング・アイススケートなどに行きました。私が仲良くし ている友達みんな素敵な人たちです。彼らと一緒にいると何もしていなくても楽しいです。私はアメリカでは友達の存在なしに生活することはできないと思いま す。ホストシスターは私の仲良しのうちの一人です。彼女は運転ができるので、私たちはいつもどこかに行っています。日本ではこうしたことがなかなかできな いので、本当に楽しいです！！！それってかっこいいですよね。私も運転できたらいいのになぁと思いますが、あと一年待たなければいけません。高校を卒業し たらなるべくすぐに運転免許を取ろうと決めました。学校の色々な活動を通して、たくさんの新しい友達ができました。その時に私が気づいたことは、英語のス キルは友達と仲良くなるうえで問題ではないということです。相手のパーソナリティーに興味があれば、自然と話が弾むものです。新学期に新しく誰かと友達に なるのと同じです。来年留学する人たちが留学することを怖がらないでほしいなと思います。私の人生はこの特別な一年で作られます。もちろん時々英語が理解 できなかったりそのほかのことで苦労したりもしていますが。

このレポートの最後に皆さんにお話しすることはクリスマスとニューイヤーのお休みのことです。家では初めて本物のクリスマスツリーを飾りました。すごく綺 麗だったのですが、手入れをするのが大変でした。休み期間にした中で一番思い出に残っていることは、一週間テキサスに旅行に行ったことです。１０時間かけ てテキサスまで車で行きました。この１０時間のドライブはこれまでのところ私の人生最長記録です。テキサスではファミリーの祖父母と過ごしました。私は彼 らが好きで、彼らと一緒にいると私の日本の祖父母のことを思い出します。彼らは私のことを本当の孫のうちの一人として扱ってくれました。また大好きなおじ いちゃん、おばあちゃんに会いたいです。私はまたテキサスでおじいちゃんおばあちゃんとまた会うことを約束しました。私たちは綺麗に飾られたコートハウス に行って、ファミリーのいとこたちと２つのクリスマスパーティーに行きました。少しの間だけでしたが、生まれたばかりのいとことも会いました。私はその子 に「私は君が初めて出会うアジアもしくは日本人だね」と声をかけました。もちろん、彼は私の腕の中で何が起こっているのか理解できていなかったと思います が。でも、彼が次に私に会うときには、私は彼と私が写った写真を持って行って、同じセリフを言うことでしょう。彼がどんな反応をするのか、おもしろそうで す（笑）。ニューイヤーシーズンについてお話ししますね。日本とは異なることがたくさんあります。私はアメリカの年越しよりも日本のやり方の方が好きで す。私は日本ではいかにたくさんの年越しの伝統があるかということに気づきました。私がこうして年越しのころに経験したことが、文化差を学んでいくうえで 非常に有意義でした。

今は学校がまた始まり、友達と素敵な時間を過ごしています。この学期ではたくさんの楽しみなことがあります。例えば、水泳の大会、合唱の大会、春休み、 イースター、プロム、私の誕生日、卒業式などです。次のレポートでは皆さんに良いお知らせができればと思っています。春はもうすぐです！！！！！ここアー カンソーでは今シーズンまだ雪を見ていません！！！！！！！！！！！！！！！札幌は雪が多いことでしょう。みなさんお体に気を付けてください！！！！！そ れでは次のレポートでまたお会いしましょう。

Hello everyone ! This is my second report from Arkansas ! I am sorry that I skipped writing a report 2 months ago. Even now I am 2 weeks late for sending a report. Oops.

First of all, I’m going to tell you about my school life. My school life has been really fun, and I am so busy right now. In choir, I made all region choir, which means that I am one of the best 60 soprano singer in central Arkansas. Because of that, I had a chance to sing The National Anthem at the foot ball game. There were around 2000 people, and I am proud of myself that I did it. Also I will have a solo for the next choir festival. I am so excited about it. Guess what !!!!! I joined school swim team for the first time ! The practice is always hard but I love my team so much. We cheer for each other all the time even if we can’t hear the cheering under the water. I believe that Cabot high school swim team is the nicest team ever! Everyone on the swim team is a sweet heart!!! I think I couldn’t have dropped my time if I haven’t had their help and cheering. I still have 2 more meeting, so I will do my best on that. To talk about studying, I still have a hard time to finish all of my homework. I have so much homework in every class, and the assignments are getting harder and harder. I am always ready for weekends. I changed Algebra 2 into Pre Calculus, and Chemistry into Pre AP Chemistry. These new classes are a lots harder than old classes, but it makes me want to study hard. So I guess it was good decision that I made.  

Secondly, I’d like to talk about what I normally do on the weekends. I love weekends because I can spend time with my family and friends. (I guess everyone loves weekends lol ) I usually cook some Japanese food for my family. Thankfully, they love it, and give me compliments. That’s why I love cooking so much. I also hung out with my friends all the time. I went to movies, shopping, ice skating, and other stuff like that. All of my best friends are awesome. They always make my day wonderful without doing nothing. I don’t think I could live without them in America. My sister who is also one of my best friends, can drive by herself, so we always go somewhere by ourselves, and it is really fun because we can’t do things like this in Japan!!! I think it is cool. I with I could drive but I need to wait for a year. I have decided that I will get my driver license as soon as possible when I get out of the high school. I made many new friends through all kinds of school activities. Then I realized that English skills are not matter for making new friends. People would talk to you if they were interested in your personality. It is just like making new friends at the beginning of the school year. I hope next year’s students will not be scared to go study abroad. My life is made by this special year even if I sometimes have a hard time to understand English or struggle with something.

Last thing that I’d like to talk about is my Christmas and New Year break. We had a real christmas tree for the first time. It was so beautiful, but it was hard to take care of. The best thing that we did during the break was a trip to Texas for a week. We drove to Texas for 10 hours, which was the longest car ride that I’ve ever had. In Texas, we spent a time with my grand parents. They are my favorite people, and they remained me my real grand parents. They took care of me as one of their grand children. I love and miss them so much. But I promised that I will meet them again at the same place where we met this time. We went to court house, where it was decorated so beautifully, and had 2 more christmas party with all of my new cousins. I had a new-born cousin for a while. Then I said to him that I am the first Asian or Japanese person you’ve ever met. Of course, he can’t understand what is going on in my arms. But next time when he will meet me, I will bring a picture of him and me, that I took at the time, and I will say the same words to him again. That’s would be so fun lol To talk about New Year season, It was a lot different from Japan. I would like to prefer Japanese New Year than American one. I learned how many New Year’s traditions we have in Japan. I think the experiences that I had around New Year’s day was meaningful to me for learning cultural differences.

Now, I’m back at school, and having great time with my friends. During this semester, many things that I’m looking forward to will happen like last swim meet, choir competition, Spring break, Easter, prom, my birthday, graduation ceremony, and so on. I hope I will be able to tell you some good news in my next report. Spring is coming !!!!!! Here in Arkansas, I’ve never seen snow this year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think Sapporo has heavy snow. So please take care !!!!!!! See you in the next report!
