カナダに留学中の青山知央さん から第1回目の留学報告が届きました。

こんにちは！カナダのオンタリオ州に留学している青山知央です。

北海道はもう寒くなってきましたか？私のいる場所は９月に入ってから少しずつもう寒くなってきています。ホストママの友達によると冬はー20度だそうです。北海道に住んでいるのに寒いのが苦手な私にとってはもっと暑い時期が長くあってほしかったです笑　早速ですが1ヶ月の私の留学生活をまとめたので見てください！

 

初めにカナダに来てから思ったことを書きますね！カナダでは運転手や店員がHave a nice dayやHow was your today?などと声をかけてくれます。初めて声をかけられた時はそのことに驚きました。カナダは本当にフレンドリーな人が多いです。そして道に迷ったりバスがわからない時に人に聞くと場所をわざわざ検索して私に見せ、丁寧に教えてくれます。カナダは移民の方が多くて人の個性や他の国から来た人の文化をお互いに認め合います。私はこのカナダの多様性が本当に好きです！

 

次に研修のことを書きますね。研修では英語の授業がほとんどですがトロントにショッピングやナイアガラの滝を見たりアメリカのRed soxとカナダのBlue jayという野球チームの試合を見たり船に乗って綺麗な景色を見たりしました。たくさんの友達ができて色々な経験ができて本当に楽しかったです！その一方で私はせっかく生活に慣れてきた２週間目にホストブラザーとの間で問題ができてしまい、ホストチェンジという経験をしました。２週間一緒にいたホストファミリーはマザー、ファザー、１２歳と１４歳のブラザー、８歳のシスターでみんなとてもフレンドリーでたくさん日本のことを聞いてくれたり話しかけてくれました。特にシスターはすごく人懐っこい性格で毎日私が学校から家に帰るといつもちー!と言って抱きついてきてすごく可愛かったです。シスターの友達とマザーの知り合いがたくさんいたのでその機会を無駄にしないぞ！と思ってたくさん話しかけてたくさんの友達ができました。しかし慣れた環境から研修が終わるまで残り９日！というところで急にホストチェンジをしたということ、２週間一緒にいてすごく楽しくて大好きだったホストファミリーになにも言えずにチェンジになってしまったこと、あと９日しかないのに仲良くなれるのかという不安があって寝る前やふとしたときにたまに悲しくなったりすることがありました。辛そうな留学生活に見えるかもしれませんがそんな時に、研修中の友達が相談に乗ってくれて私はまた頑張ることできました！最終日にホストマザーが涙目になりながらI will miss youと言ってくれたことは忘れません。

 

この１ヶ月は楽しい毎日の中にほんの少しの辛い経験があってそれを研修中の段階で乗り越えられたからこそすごく早くて充実していて忘れられない１ヶ月になりました。そしてこれから長期でどんなに辛いことがあっても自分は頑張る、という気持ちを再確認できました。

 

９月に入り研修が終わって長期のホストファミリーに会いました。マザーにたくさんの友達がいるので自己紹介と名前を覚えることに必死な毎日です（笑）明日から学校が始まります。まだどの科目を取るのかは決まっていませんがついていけるように頑張りたいと思います！

Hi, guys! I’m Chihiro Aoyama living in Ontario, Canada. Hokkaido is getting cold now? The place where I am is already getting colder a little more in September. According to my host mom’s relative, it will be –20 degrees in winter. I hope that summer will more longer lol　I summarized my monthly study abroad life, so please read it!

 

Firstly, I’d like to write of what I thought after coming to Canada! In Canada, drivers and shoppers greet me like,” Have a nice day” and “How was your today?” When I spoke to them for the first time, I was surprised how kind Canadians are. If I get lost or I don’ t know which bus to ride and I ask them, they research the place that where I want to go, show me where I am, and they are very polite. Canada has a lot of immigrants, so they recognize each other’s personality and the culture of people who came from other countries.　I really like the diversity in Canada!

 

Next, I’d like to write of orientation. In orientation, we mostly took English lessons, but we also went shopping in Toronto, went to Niagara Falls, watched baseball game of American team Red Sox vs Canada team Blue Jays, rode boat and saw beautiful view. I made a lot of friends and I experienced various things, so I had a lot of fun! During the second week, when I got used to it, I had a problem between my host brother and I, so I changed host families. The host family who I stayed with for two weeks have two sons, twelve and thirteen years old and daughter, 8 years old. They’re very friendly and they asked me about Japanese.

In particular, host sister was very sociable and when I got home after I finished school, she called me “Chi!” and hugged me every day. My host sister and her mom have a lot of friends and relatives, so I thought like “I will not waste this opportunity!” I talked with them many times, so I could make many friends. However, because of the environment, suddenly I changed the host family on the 9 th remaining day. I couldn’t say anything to my host family who I stayed with  for two weeks and I had anxiety as to whether we could make a good relationship in 9 days. It made me sad sometimes. Although it may seem like it is hard study abroad, but my friends who had orientation helped support me at that time, and then I thought “ I could try everything again! “ I’ll never forget that my host mother kept weeping her eyes and told me “ I will miss you” when we were together last.

 

This month has been a fun. One day, I was just a little bit overcome with sadness during the orientation. Time has passed by quickly for me and over all I’ve had a lot of fun. It was a month that I couldn’t forget. Also, I was able to reconfirm the feeling that I will do my best and  I’ll experience painful things in long term study abroad.

 

Enter in September, I finished orientation and I met host family who I will stay with for 10 months.

My host mom has a lot of relatives and friends and she introduce to me them, so I always introduce myself and I try to learn their names lol My school will start tomorrow. The school didn’t decide  what subjects I’ll take, but I’ll do my best in my classes.
