カナダに留学中の青山知央さんから第3回目の留学報告が届きました。

みなさんこんにちは、カナダのオンタリオ州に留学している青山知央です。ここはカナダの中では暖かい方ですがー２５度くらいになる日もあります。学校ではタンクトップで過ごしている人もいてびっくりです笑　最近英語で夢を見たと思うと今度は日本の友達や家族が夢に出てきたりして無意識にいろいろなことを考えているのかな、そんな毎日を過ごしています笑

 

まず初めに水族館の話をします。11月にトロントにママの息子と彼女に会いにいきました。その時にママの息子の彼女とRipley’s aquarium Toronto というところに行ったのですが最後に水族館に行ったのが小学生の時とかだったのですごく久しぶりでした。そしてさすがトロント。規模が大きくて夜だったのでライトも綺麗でワクワクしました笑　研修の最後の３日間トロントにいてもうここには来られないんだな〜と思っていましたし私の住んでいるところは周りを見渡せば草、草、草　くらい田舎なのでトロントまで遠いと思っていたのですがなんだかんだ私の家から２時間くらいで思っていたよりもトロントに行けています

 

次にクリスマスパーティーとお正月について書きます。クリスマスパーティーは家で私のホストファミリーとファミリーの親戚、友達と過ごしました。夜にみんなでシークレットサンタをして４つもプレゼントもらえました！笑　お正月は毎年楽しみにしていた神社に行っておみくじすることやおせち、年賀状、年越しそば、そして大掃除までももう恋しかったです。笑　クリスマスと同じように親戚達と年越しをしましたが２０１８年明けたー！という感じはしませんでした。笑

 

そして学校生活。あれだけ悩みに悩んでいたヒストリーですが１２月に入ってからグループワークなどが多々あってなんとか壁を乗り越えた気がします！確かにヒストリーのクラスで毎日話す人がいるかというとそうではないですが教室に入ることすら苦痛だった頃から比べるとだいぶ良くなりました。これからクリスマスブレイクが終わってファイナルエグザム（期末試験）を受けます。この私が取っているヒストリーはワールドヒストリーでずっとここまで半年間Egyptian Civilizationをやってきました。笑　本当にえ、なんも知らないよってとこから始まって先生にたくさんサポートもしてもらって日本で赤点ギリギリをいつも取っていたヒストリーですが結構良い評定を取れています！最後まで気を抜かないでメソポタミア文明、勉強します笑

 

そして最近フランス語を勉強し始めました。発音が本当に難しいのですがそれよりも他言語を英語で勉強するのが難しいです笑　フランス語を習っている代わりに日本語を４人の子供に教えています。２６字のアルファベットしか使わない欧米に比べて日本語はひらがな、カタカナ、漢字と３つもスタイルがあってそれを説明するのになかなかてこずります。日本で生まれて日本語をずっと話して来て私たちに取っては当たり前だけどカナダに来て日本語ってなんて複雑なの！って今までに何回も思いました笑

 

　

もう少しで留学も折り返し地点にきます。この半年、何が成長したかなと考えてみると言語よりも精神的に成長できたと思います。留学は大変なことが多くて何回も挫折するし寂しくもなります。それでもトライしてうまくいったときや何か自分の成長を感じた時の嬉しさは本当に大きいです。胸はって日本に帰れるようにあと半年間もっともっといろんなことを経験して楽しんで日本に帰ります。最後まで読んでくれてありがとうございます。メリークリスマス＆ハッピーニューイヤー！みなさん良いお年を！

Hello, everybody. I’m Chihiro Aoyama and I’m staying Ontario in Canada. Here in this part of Ontario it is sort of warmer than other places in Canada, but there are many days when it’s about –25 degrees. Some students wear only sleeveless clothes even in December. When I told host mom about it, she said ‘’They are really silly teenagers’’ and I thought so, but I’m actually one of them because I give priority to wearing shoes that are my favorite rather than my warmer ones. Haha

Recently, I dreamed in English, but the day after that, I dreamed in Japanese and my family and friends came out in the dream. I was wondering If I think about various things unconsciously while I sleep?

 

First I’ll talk about the Ripley’s Aquarium.  I went to Toronto to see my host mom’s son and his girlfriend and at that time, we visited the aquarium. Last time I went to an aquarium in japan was when I was in elementary school, so that was so nostalgic and it was a longtime since I went to an aquarium.

The aquarium was very big and when we visited there it was night, so it was awesome.

The last three days of the Orientation at Toronto, I thought I’ll never be able to come here again. It’s too far to come to Toronto because I live in the country side. Like when I go outside and look around my house, there is only grass, grass, grass.  In reality, it takes only 2 hours to go to Toronto and I can go there more often than I thought.

 

Next, I’ll talk about Christmas party and New Year’s Day. I spent at my house with my host mom’s relatives and her friends on Christmas party. In the evening, we got Secret Santa. I also got 4 presents! On New Year Eve, I was missing Japan without going to the shrine, to pray the whole year’s fortune, drawing Omikuji, eating Osechi, sending Nenga-jyo, and watching special TV show. I didn’t feel it dawned the new year at that time lol

 

 

And, I’ll talk about my school life.  I was suffering from History class that much, but I feel like I overcame the wall.  I still don’t have any friends who speak with me every day, but it’s better than before. This Christmas break will finish soon and I’ll take Final Exam. Everybody might think that I’m taking Canadian History or US history, but I’m NOT! Lol I’ve took Egyptian Civilization every single day. History is my weak subject and I was barely passing History in Japan… but I’m doing well in Canada and teacher support me, so I can take high score so far! I’ll complete this class and I’m sure that I’ll never take Egyptian History again lol

 

Recently, I started to study French. To learn French pronunciation is hard, but it’s even more difficult to learn French in English lol  While I’m learning French, I’m teaching Japanese to 4 children.

Compare English that uses only 26 letters, Japanese has three styles and it takes pretty long time to explain it  lol  No wonder it’s easy to speak Japanese for us because we were born in Japan and grew up in Japan. For this reason, I thought how complicated Japanese is, many times since I came here!

　

It’s coming to the half way point of my study abroad life. I think I grew up mentally during first 6 months and will improve my English ability in the next 6 months. Study abroad has had many hard things and sometimes I feel frustrated. When I overcome an obstacle in Canada, it feels very rewarding! It makes me feel grateful.  I’ll experience various things and make more memories in the remaining 6 months to go back to Japan proudly. Thank you for reading my report to the end!
