アメリカに留学中の藪田名音さんから第4回目の留学報告が届きました。

アメリカの高校生の中で、プロムはすごく大切な行事の一つです。私にとっても、まるで映画のワンシーンのような、きらきらした思い出になりました。みんな、ドレスやスーツを着て、仲のいい友達や好きな人と一緒に一日を過ごします。日本の学校にはない行事なので、最初はどんなものかよくわかりませんでした。しかし、話を聞いたり、準備を始めるうちに、私自身もすごくワクワクしてきました。 

プロムのために、数週間前からドレスを選んだり、ヘアスタイルを考えたりして、当日が来るのを楽しみにしていました。ホストファミリーと一緒にドレスショップへ行き、鏡の前で試着を繰り返しました。すごく楽しかったです。 

当日の朝から、ずっとそわそわしていました。ドレスを着た鏡の自分をみるとなんだか少し大人になった気持がして、照れくさいけど、うれしくて胸がドキドキしました。 

プロムの会場は大きなホールで、ライトや装飾がキラキラしてとてもきれいでした。入り口では写真撮影が行われていて、みんな笑顔でポーズをとっていました。ドレスもスーツもカラフルで、すごく素敵でした。 

会場の中では音楽がずっと流れていて、踊ったり、写真を撮ったり、おしゃべりをしたりいているうちに、あっという間に時間が過ぎていきました。プロムはただのパーティーじゃなくて、アメリカでの友達とも絆と別れの気持ちがつまったイベントでした。アメリカでの高校生活の最後をかざるのにふさわしい、にぎやかだけどなんだか少しさびしい夜でした。会場でみんなが笑っている顔を見て、それぞれの思い出や、これからの将来へのドキドキが伝わってきた気がしました。そして、忘れたくない一日が、またひとつ私の心の中に増えました。とても楽しかった日でした。 

Prom is one of the most important events for high school students in United States. For me it became a sparkling memory just like a scene from a movie. Everyone wears dresses or suits and spends the day with close friends or someone special. Since we don’t have prom in Japanese schools I didn’t really understand what it was like at first. But as I heard more about it and started getting ready, I started to feel really excited. 

A few weeks before prom, I started choosing my dress and thinking about my hairstyle. I was really looking forward to the prom. I went to a dress shop with my host family and tried on several dresses in front of the mirror. It was so much fun. On the morning of the prom, I felt nervous all day. When I was myself in the mirror wearing the dress I felt like I had grown up a little bit. I was shy but also happy and excited at that time. 

The prom venue was a big hall beautifully decorated with sparkling lights. At the entrance there was a photo area where everyone smiled and posed. The colorful dresses and suits looked really amazing.  

Inside, music was playing the whole time. While dancing, taking pictures and talking with friends, the time passed quikly. Prom was not just a party, it was full of memories, friendships, and a sence of farewell. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of my high school life in United States. It was a lively night but also a little bittersweet. Seeing everyone’s smiling faces made me feel their memories and hopes for the future. That night became another forgrttable memory in my heart. I had such a wonderful time.
