アメリカのユタ州に留学中の佐藤花柚さんから第４回目の留学報告が届きました。

みなさんこんにちは！アメリカのユタ州に留学中の佐藤花柚です。今回４回目のレポートは「留学生活を通じて成長したこと」について紹介させていただきます。

アメリカに来てから早くも７ヶ月が経ちましたが自分の中で成長したと思うことが三つあります。一つ目は、コミュニケーション能力です。留学に行ったらコミュニケーション能力が伸びると言われていますがこれは本当です。私自身中高一貫で北星に通っているので新しい人と出会う機会があまりありませんでした。ですがアメリカに来てからは誰も知らない状況でスタートするので嫌でも周りの人に話しかけないといけません。前期は特に友達作りで苦戦していましたが後期からは難なく話しかけることができ、人脈も大きく広がりました。

二つ目は、自分の視野です。私はCurrent issueという時事問題を扱う授業をとっています。その授業ではアメリカをはじめとする政治や社会問題などをクラスメイトと話し合います。その中で地球温暖化などの環境問題に触れたときに、一人の子が電気自動車に反対していました。日本にいるときは電気自動車に反対している人は誰もいなかったので、アメリカ人と話してみてそういう考え方もあるのだなと知りました。

三つ目は、忍耐力です。留学に来てから様々な困難がありました。一つ目でもあげたコミュニケーション能力も忍耐力がないと身に付かなかったことだと感じます。根気強く先生に聞いたり、友達に話したり、このような日本では日常で当たり前にできることを意識して続けることによって忍耐力につながったと思います。他にも英語で歴史や公共などの課題をやる場合、他の人より二倍時間がかかってしまいますがそれをこなすことによっても忍耐力がついたと思います。

今回はこの三つを紹介しましたが他にも小さなことで成長したと感じることはたくさんあります。来月はプロムがありまだまだ楽しい行事は残っていますが、残り三ヶ月弱の留学生活も楽しんで過ごしていきたいです。ではまた次のレポートで！

Hi everyone! This is Hana Sato from Utah. For my fourth report, I’m going to tell you about what I improved during my exchange year.

It has been 7 months since I came to U.S. and there are 3 parts that I feel improved. The first one is communication skills. People say that if you go to abroad your communication skills will improve, that is true. I’ve been to Hokusei for 5 years, so I didn’t have many opportunities to meet new friends. However, in the U.S. I need to talk to people from me because there’s no one that I know. I was struggling with that for first semester, but I feel like it became easier from the second semester.

The second thing is my view. I’m taking a class called Current issue. In that class we talk about politics and social issue in the U.S. and the world. The other day we were discussing about environment. One classmate said that electronic cars are not good, and I never thought about it like that. So, it’s interesting to talk with American about those kinds of things.

Third thing is patience. There were a lot of struggles during my exchange year. The first thing that I mentioned, communication skills, were never improved if I didn’t have the patience. Talking to friends or teachers, that was like the basic things in Japan but continuing in U.S. made ne improve patience. Also doing assignments for history and government takes like twice a time comparing to other students. By doing that my patience improved as well.

These three are the main things but there’s much more that I improved. I have prom next month and there’s more things coming up. There’s only less then 3 months so I’ll have fun with all my heart. See you on the next report!
