アメリカのコネチカット州に留学中の澤田日菜さんから第4回目の留学報告が届きました。

コネチカット州に留学中の澤田日菜です。ついに最後のレポートを書く時が来ました。帰国まで残り一か月しかない中で、どうすれば少しでも長くアメリカに留まれるか、帰国後の計画や大学のことなど、いろいろ考えています。 

今回は自由にテーマを決めて書けるとのことなので、アメリカで生きていくために大切なことを伝えたいと思います。それは「自信をもって生きること」です。 

私がアメリカで生活できているのは、自信があるからだと思います。政治については何も知らないのに、完璧なパワーポイントを作って発表できる自信だけはありました。その自信を持って発表した結果、内容がどうであれ、やる気と自信を評価されて褒められました。このことをホストマザーに伝えると、「あなたはアメリカで生きていくのに向いている」と言われました。それをきっかけに、卒業後は必ずアメリカに行き、暮らすと決意しました。 

日本とは異なり、アメリカの良いところは、どこにいても評価されることです。ホストマザーが言っていたように、事務員から始めてマネージャーになった人もいます。日本では大手企業に入る際、最終学歴が大卒でないと良いポジションに就くのが難しいですが、アメリカでは2年制大学卒や高卒でも成功するチャンスがあります。全てにおいて自信を持ち、「自分ならできる」と信じることが大切だと実感しました。 

この自信を持って、5月30日に行われるプロムでプロムクイーンにでもなってやろうかと思います。 

  これから留学に行く子たち、自信をもって楽しく生きることを第一に考えて！人生一度きりだから自分がしたいことをたくさんしてほしい！留学中、日本の家族が恋しくなったり帰りたくなるかもしれないけど時間が経ったら絶対慣れてくるし、ネガティブなこと考えても時間の無駄だからポジティブに！楽しんでください！ 

My name is Hina Sawada and I am studying abroad in Connecticut. The time has finally come for me to write my last report. With only one month left before I return home, I am thinking a lot about how I can stay in the U.S. as long as possible, my plans after returning home, my university, and so on. 
Since I was told that I could freely choose a theme for this report, I would like to share with you what is important for survival in the U.S. It is “to live with confidence.” 
I think the reason I am able to live in the U.S. is because I have confidence. I knew nothing about politics, but I had the confidence to make a perfect PowerPoint presentation. As a result of my presentation with that confidence, I was praised for my motivation and confidence, regardless of the content. When I told this to my host mother, she said, “You are suited to live in the United States. This led me to make up my mind that I would definitely go and live in the U.S. after graduation. 
Unlike Japan, the good thing about the U.S. is that you are appreciated wherever you are. As my host mother said, there are people who started as clerks and became managers. In Japan, it is difficult to get a good position in a major company unless you have a university degree as your final education, but in the U.S., you have a chance to succeed even if you graduated from a two-year university or high school. I realized that it is important to have confidence in everything you do and believe that you can do it. 
With this confidence, I think I will be prom queen at the prom on May 30.                                     To all the people who are going to study abroad, think first about living confidently and happily! You only have one life, so do as many things you want to do! During your stay in Japan, you may miss your family in Japan or want to go home, but you will get used to it as time goes by, and thinking about negative things is a waste of time, so be positive! Have fun!
