アメリカ合衆国ワシントン州 Prosser High Schoolに留学中の 荒井　若菜さんからの第３回目のレポートです。

みなさん、こんにちは。ワシントン州、プロッサーに留学中の荒井若菜です。季節は、2月で定期試験やバレンタインの季節ですね、プロッサーはまだ雪が降っていなく、昼間は5度くらいの温度が続いていて、上着がなくても出かけられます。 最近はインフルエンザやコロナウイルが流行っていますね、私のブラザーもつい先日インフルエンザにかかりました。しっかり対策しましょうね。私はかかりたくないので手洗いうがいをしっかりしています。

今回のテーマは文化の違いですね、アメリカに来てから文化の違いしか感じません笑。カルチャーショックまでのことはまだありませんが一番違うなと思うことは、子供に関してだと思います。あくまでも私のファミリーを見て思ったことなのですべての家族がこうであるというわけではありません。私の家はシスターたちが小学生なので朝はファザーの出発に合わせて4時30分に起きてベビーシッターの家に行きます、そこから時間になると近くのバス停からバスに乗って学校に行きます。私は1人で家の前からバスに乗って登校しています。学校が終わったら学童に行っています。私が小学低学年の時は1人で家で留守番していました（笑）家に帰ってきたら日本では、親が一緒に子供と遊ぶということが多いと思いますが、親が暇であろうとも子供の遊びには一切干渉していません。するとしたら、ご飯だから、寝る時間だからもうやめなさいくらいですね、一番驚いたことは、夜、親と一緒に寝ないことです。子供は子供、大人は大人で仕切りがついています。だけど、姉弟たちで喧嘩することが多いので結局は親のベッドで寝てることが多いと思います。 あと感じたのは冒頭にもかいたように最近ブラザーがインフルエンザにかかったんですよ、日本なら温かい恰好をして、違う部屋に隔離されて寝ていなさいというのがほとんどだと思うんですが、アメリカではインフルエンザになったとしても普通に家族みんなでリビングで過ごしたり、薄着で過ごしたりマスクや冷えピタを使わないでいつもどうり過ごしている人が多いと思います。あとは、週末マザーの友達の姪が来ることが多々あるんですが、その赤ちゃんが1歳になったばかりなんですがポテトチップスを上げたり、固形の卵や鶏肉をあげたりしているんですね、日本ではありえなくてほんっとにびっくりしました。そして、1歳の誕生日パーティーに呼ばれたんですよそしたら、赤ちゃんがケーキを食べているんですよ！もう、信じられなくないですか？私はえ？なんで1歳なのにケーキを食べているの？！！てかんじでした。ほかの人からしたら、普通らしいですね。ほかにもたくさんありますが、そこはほかの生徒が書いていると思うので覗いてみてください。

先月のレポートから今月のレポートまでの出来事はまず、初めてアメリカでクリスマスを過ごしたのですが、私が思い描いていたクリスマスはホームアローンのように街中にイルミネーションがかざられていてクリスマスソングが流れていたり、家族みんな毎日クリスマス関連の映画を見たりと想像していたんですが、私のファミリーは忙しくてクリスマスツリーの準備ができなかったり映画とかは見ずに早く寝たりそんなにクリスマスは感じなかったです。街もとても田舎の方なのでイルミネーションや音楽もなくいつもと変わらない街でした。クリスマス当日も本当はツリーの下にたくさんプレゼントがあって開ける感じなのだけど、ツリーがないので前日の夜にみんなであけました。逆にあまりない過ごし方だったのでこれもこれで思い出ということで. . . （笑） 正月は本当に何もしませんでした、おせちや練り切りなどが恋しくなったんですがお味噌汁を飲んで何とか乗り切りました。 クリスマスにファミリーからお金ももらって何に使おうか迷っていたところジムに行こうと思いついて、最近は週3を目指して通っています。そのジムにプールがついていてストレス発散ついでに泳いだり走ったり筋トレをしています、そこのジムのプールが面白くて普通のプールは25Mか50Mだとおもうんですよ、でもここのプールは17Mなんですよ、面白くないですか？（笑）頑張って帰る前までに行く前の体重よりも軽くなって帰りたいですね。 1月30日にFCCLAというクラブのカンファレンスがあって、私と友達で出たんですね、仕組み的にはワシントン州の地域ごとに予選をして金賞をもらえたらワシントン州全部の予選で勝ち抜いた高校が集まるんですよ、その予選で100人くらいいたんですが、私たちのグループが金賞を取ったんですよ、というても、ほぼ半分以上のグループが金賞だったんですね（笑）次のカンファレンスは3月なのでいい結果が残せるように頑張ります。

Hello, I am Wakana Arai who stay in Washington States. We have already spent 6 months when we came U.S. This month we have school was 2 hours delay sometimes. I hope schools will be 2 hours delay everyday lol.

This report’s theme is what is the difference between U.S. and Japan of culture. My host family has little kids, like elementary school kids and so I feel different culture about kids. First parents are work early, so kids usually woke up at 4:30 in the morning to go babysitter. And they will ride on bus around there. After school they are going to boys and girls club when mom pick up the kids. Second, in Japan kids wants to play with mom and dad, but in here mom and dad doesn’t want to play with children. Children are playing with sis and brother. I was most wonder that they do not sleep together, in Japan almost family sleep with parents. But in here they are absolutory separate. And sometimes my family get baby to babysitter for her friend. Then I was really wonder that my host mom and her friend was give some chips and eggs! She is only 1 year old. We went to her birthday party, then she was eating her birthday cake!! I was like, what?!! What are you guys doing??! Baby cannot eat cake!! Lol But maybe American people think that is oaky to give cake to baby. My host brother got the fulu last week, in Japan if I get the fulu, I have to stay all day and I should take mask all day. And I cannot go Livingroom I mean I have to stay my room all day and keep worm, but in U.S. my host brother does not were t shirt, mask and he was not sleeping!! In my brain, What a heck!? I will get fulu from him soon. I can miss school!! Yeeeaaah! But I don’t want to miss school too. Everyday I was hope please stay in your room lol. I feel what is the different culture more but other students would write, do please check it!

My first time to spent Christmas and Ney Year’s day in U.S. Christmas was fun, but I saw Home Alone when I was 10 years old, then I thought in every town will get illumination and Christmas song all of town. But here is not city, so I could not see illumination and music, so I feel normal day. And this year was busy year for host parents, so we did not get Christmas tree, then we got presents before Christmas. I got money and some stuff, I was really go to gym to get skinny lamo and stress relief. After New Year’s day I went to gym to get member key, there has swimming pool, I was tried to swim, but their pool is only 17 M!! actually every pool has 25M or 50M it is really funny. I went to New Year’s party with my friends! It was awesome. We went to our friend house at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. We were ate snacks drink pops, and secret santa!! I got a ginger house but I did not make yet lol. And when it was New Year we used cracker and my friend was kissed her boyfriend lamo. New Year’s day I was wake up at 3:30. Next day I woke up at 10:30.

January 30th Jennifer who is my friend and I went to Pasco to do conference of FCCLA club. We made wall clock from cake pan then we got gold place. We started on last November to make Japanese food, but we didn’t have enough time because we had to make vegan food. We tried make shogayaki, salad, yakisoba and miso-soup. Shogayaki is made by pork but we couldn’t use meat so we made vegan meat, but we did not enough time to make vegan meat, then we gave up, after that we made wall clock. The day we got glad place then we are going to do another conference on March of Washington State. The same day our SWEET dog (Stuart) passed away. I heard on the bus on the way to home and I was crying on the bus. He was just 9months old, he was little sweet boy. Mom and I guess he was sometimes barking to goats, so he and goat were fighting then the goat was attacked his head. Every morning he was barking at 4 a.m. and if I call his name, he always come to me. I cannot see he was playing with cats, he got my sock, he was barking front of my room and in his cage. Last November we got a new dog, the dog is really big. I am not good at big dogs, so he and Pliya is my favorite dogs. I don’t want to finish my report yet because the last story is really sad, right? I try write about last Wednesday I went to FUJIYAMA that Japanese restaurant. There was really good!! Their was little bit expensive but in japan if we go some restaurant, it will take cost 60 dollars for 5 people. If you have never been there, you should go there!!
