カナダ・オンタリオ州に留学中の 丹山 玲花さんからの第２回目のレポートです。

 

皆さんこんにちは。カナダのオンタリオ州に留学している丹山玲花です。前回のレポートからかなり間が空いてしまい本当にすみません泣。今更なんだって感じですがあけましておめでとうございます笑。こちらの正月はガキ使も紅白もおせちもお年玉もない普通の土日と何一つ変わらない一日でした泣　この日はホームシックというかジャパンシックになりかけました笑。

 

さて今回のテーマは「学校生活」についてです。私の学校は生徒数７００人程のGrade 7-12までの生徒が通っていて、北星のように中学校と高校がセットになっているような学校です。私はFood（家庭科）, English（英語）, Geography（地理）,Math（数学）を前期に取りました。Foodは基本的に家庭科と全然することは変わらないのですがその中でも衝撃的な光景を目の当たりにしました。それは授業中に先生が生徒のためにコーヒーを入れてくれるということです。「さすがカナダ。」と思いました。笑。どの教科でも言えることですが先生と生徒との距離がものすごく近いように感じます。だからと言って先生を尊敬してないわけでもなく、お互いが気を使いあっているからこそ程よい距離感が保たれているのだと生活していて思いました。Englishでは長文読解、文法、英会話など様々なことを学びます。カナダはたくさんの人種の人が住んでいるため英語が第二言語な生徒も多く、文法を学んだときは基本的なことから教えてくれました。かといって学んでいる生徒はスラスラ英語を話しているので少し不思議に思いますが文法は誰に取っても難しいものだなと思いました。後最近は日本で起きている問題について考えています。AIによる将来の職業が失われてしまう問題など日本にいる頃にはあまり考えたことがない問題について考えました。ここで考えるからこそ客観的に見える部分もあると思うし、自分の国を学ぶって大切なことだと感じました。

 

カナダに来て今まで私に取って当たり前だと思っていたことが数々ぶち壊されていっている日々ですが本当に文化の違いって面白いなと思います。カナダは圧倒的に日本と比べて「ルール」が少ないように思います。授業中に音楽聴いていてもいいし、飴も食べていてもいいしなんでもありです。でも一人一人本当に優しくて携帯が使えるから授業を聞かないわけでもなくしっかり自分にとって大切なことを自分で選んで学んでいる姿を見てほとんどが私より年が下なのにかっこいいなと思いましたし一つ一つの選択がその人を作って行くように思います。この留学を通して私も彼らに負けないように自分にとっていい選択をできる人になりたいです。

 

毎回長くなってしまいすみません（泣）。本当はもっと書きたいのですがその気持ちはぐっと我慢しますね！！そしてコロナウイルスが流行っていると聞きました。実はカナダにも来てしまったんです泣。よくもまああんな大きな大陸横断しましたよね笑。　お互い予防対策しっかりしましょう！それではまた次のレポートでお会いしましょう〜。

 

Hi guys! I am Reika who live in Ontario. I’m so sorry for being late to write report;)  It’s getting cold and I can see my breath here.

 

By the way, I’m going to write about school life from here:)  There are 700 people who are junior high school & high school students in my school.  I take Food, English, Geography and Math on this semester.  Basically, I think Food is much the same as Japanese Food class, but something surprising happened. That is my teacher to make coffee for students during the class! That kind of things is unheard of in Japan. I feel the position of a teacher is the same as a student’s, but they respect each other, so I think that is the good point to keep a professional distance each other.  In the English class, I study grammar, English conversation, reading and understanding a long text. There are many races in Canada, so there are many people who speak English that is second language.  So, we can compare English grammar and other language grammar. These days, I studied about problem that is occurred in Japan. I thought that I already knew about Japan, but I realized that I don’t know about Japan. It was precious time for me during I was learning about Japan, and I think I have to study about Japan more. To learn own country is significant things for people who lives in now. Also, we have a lot of time to write a sentence about myself, so I want to know about myself too.  

 

Since I have come here, I have found lot of differences from what I expected. And it is fun to experience differences for me. In Canada, the number of rules is fewer than Japan. We can use phones, the school doesn’t care whether or not student change their hair color and we can wear whatever we want. I have many opportunities to experience freedom. In addition, we have a lot of chance to choose from several alternatives. When I am in Japan, I’m not that good at making decisions and I like to do whatever people want to do. However, since I came here, I feel like I could have my choice and I could say my opinion.  I want to be a person who have own idea before I go back to Japan.
