アメリカのアイオワ州、ポストビル・コミュニティ高校に留学中の萱場万由子さんから第４回目の留学報告が届きました。

 

こんにちは、萱場万由子です。アイオワに来てから７ヶ月ほど経ちました。雪も溶け始め最近は春らしくなってきて学校でも半袖短パンの人が増えてきました。最近は何もしていないので、書きたいことを書かせてください（笑

 

私の大好きなバスケのシーズンが先月終わってしまいました。最後の試合は惜しくも２点差で負けてしまいました。そのチームと戦うのは２回目で1回目も２点差で負けたんです。なかなか悔しかったですね。試合は夜にあったので、午前中は練習がありました。私はそこで足首をひねってしまったんです。まぁ北星バスケ部魂で試合にはフル出場しました。そのおかげで足首は腫れて青くなりましたが、さすが私です、回復力がとても早いんです。ただアイシングを少しさぼったので今後に響きそうです（笑

 

バスケシーズンが終わったことでバスケのおかげで仲良くなった友達がオレゴンへ引っ越してしまいました。とても寂しいです。ですが、一つ嬉しいことがありました。アメリカの大学からバスケ推薦をいただいたんです。私は北星のバスケが認められた気がしてとても嬉しかったです。

 

バスケシーズンが終わってからはなんのクラブにも入るつもりはなかったのでゆっくり過ごしていましたが、マザーに何か入れと言われたので陸上部に遅れて入ることを決めました。やるからには結果を残して日本に帰りたいと思います。といっても私そこまで足速くないのでどうなるかはわかりませんが、次回のレポートで良い結果を伝えられたらいいなと思います。

 

学校はあと１週間ほどで３クォーターが終わります。セカンドセメスターから私はgovernmentを取らなければいけなくて、今はそれが一番大変な教科です。一番好きなのは、数学とESLです。数学はクイズやテストでボーナスクエッションを解くことで１００％以上の成績を取ることができるんです。毎回最高得点を取ることができて嬉しいです。ですから私は数学のテストを受けるのが好きです。クラスメイトの中では理解しきれず私の宿題を写す人や、私に教えてと助けを求めてくる人もいます。数学はこの成績を保ちもっとあげていけるように頑張ります。

 

私はアメリカの学校の先生が大好きです。みんな優しくて私は先生に相談をしたりしています。そして先生は私のことを気にかけてくれたり、授業で助けが必要な時は頼めば助けてくれます。私はなぜか先生には日本でもアメリカでも恵まれているんです。素敵な先生に出会えてよかったです。

 

私は最近夢に日本のバスケ部のメンバーが出てくるんです。それだけみんなに会いたいんです。彼女達は最高の仲間です。彼女達の笑顔は私までも笑顔にしてくれます。なんでいつも日本のバスケ部のことを書くんだよ、って思ってる人もいるのではないでしょうか。それは、それだけ私は日本のバスケ部のみんなが大好きだからです。留学を通して北星のバスケがどれだけすごいか身にしみてわかりました。バスケを始めて本当によかったです。北星に入学してよかったです。家族には北星に入学させてくれたことに感謝です。ありがとう‼︎

 

Hi, this is Mayuko Kayaba. It had passed for 7 months since I came to Iowa. Snow is starting melting and it’s recently like spring so there are some students who wear T-shirt and short pants. I’m not doing anything these days so let me write whatever I want.

 

Basketball season which is my favorite sport is over last month. We lost our last game by 2 points. We have played basketball game before with the team and we lost by 2 points last game too. We regretted a lot. We had game at night so we had a practice in the morning. I twisted my ankle as the practice. Oh well I kept play basketball and I played game full time so my ankle was swollen and became blue. It was fast to get better though. But I didn’t ice my ankle so much so it sometimes feel weird.

 

My one of a friend moved to Oregon after over the season. We became close through basketball so I really miss her. Anyway, I had really happy thing. I got a recommendation from college in America. I fell Hokusei basketball was admitted so I was so happy.

 

After over basketball season I’m not going to out for any sports club so I was spending time at the home but my host mother told me I should out for something so I decided to out for track. It has already started track practice though. I’ll achieve result because I don’t want to lose. But I don’t know I can do because I’m not fast very much… I hope I can tell you guys to good result next report.

 

3 quarter is done about a week later. I have to take United States government in the second semester so I’m taking it and it is the most difficult class for me. My favorite class is Algebra 2 and ESL. I always solve bonus questions so I can get more than 100% grade for quiz and test. I’m so happy to be able to get  highest score in the class so I like to take a quiz and test for Algebra. There are friends who don’t understand Algebra and copy my homework and who ask me for help. I’ll study hard to keep this grade or to be able to get more good grade.

 

I love my American teachers. They are so kind to me so I sometimes talk them my worry. Also, they take care of me and they help me if I asked for help. I don’t know why but I’m blessed with wonderful teachers in America and Japan. I’m so glad to meet them.

 

There are my Japanese basketball team members in my dream these days. I think it show how much I want to meet them and miss them. They are awesome and their smiles make me smile. Aren’t you thinking why I am talking about Japanese basketball teammates every time?. It is because I love them so bad. I have realized how wonderful Hokusei basketball team is. I’m so glad to start playing basketball and entered Housei. Thank you my family for letting me enter Hokusei.
