アメリカのカリフォルニア州、セントラル・バレー高校に留学中の佐々木萌里さんから第4回目の留学報告が届きました。

 

皆さんこんにちは。レポートを出し忘れてしまってしばらく時間が経ってしまいました。ごめんなさい。

もうすぐ今学期も終わりで、日本に帰る日も近づいてきました。友達は今学期がもうすぐ終わって夏休みがやってくるので、皆喜んでいますが、私の気持ちは複雑です。私はアメリカでたくさんの素敵な友達と出会いました。「突然やってきて、私の友達になって、仲良しになって、それでもう帰っちゃうの？そんなのずるいわ！」とある日友達の一人が私に言いました。それを聞いて私はとても悲しくなりました。でも同時に、私のことを本当に好きになってくれるたくさんの友達に出会って本当に嬉しかったです。1年後にまたアメリカで会える友達を見つけられたなんて素晴らしいと思いませんか。私は思います。私のカラーガードのメンバー、毎日連れ立った友達、私の親友ギセル、皆私のアメリカでの1年を語る上で大切な人たちです。 

話すことがたくさんあります。まず、私の所属しているカラーガードチームのことをとても誇りに思っています。チームに所属することは私にとってはチャレンジでした。ダンスの仕方は知っていましたが、旗やサーベルやライフルといった道具の使い方は知りませんでした。チームメートが皆とても優しくて、何度も何度も私に教えてくれましたが、時には自分の望みどおりに演じられないこともありました。私たちの練習は５時間ずつ週２回ありました。あるときやめようかと思ったことがありましたが、やめませんでした。そしてそれは正しい決断でした。決勝まで進み、ラスベガスでアメリカのトップガードと戦いました。私たちの高校が決勝までコマを進めたことはこれまでありませんでした。決勝戦は２位に終わりました。もちろん優勝したかったですが、全力を尽くしました。他のガードのことは知りませんが、私はチームメートが大好きです。今年行った最高の決断は、ガードに所属したことだと信じています。

 

次に、私はプロムに行きました。行く予定ではなかったのですが、私のキャプテンのナタリアが、これが私にとっての最初で最後のプロムなのだから、行かなきゃだめだと言ってくれたので行くことにしました。その夜はなんと素敵な夜だったことでしょう！プロムの夜は確実に思い出に残る夜でした。それはサンフランシスコの船の上で行われました。とても綺麗でした。私に行くことを促してくれたキャプテンにお礼が言いたいです。

 

私の親友のギセルが私にお寿司を作ってくれました。これまで食べた中で一番おいしいお寿司でした。彼女は本当に良い子です。今学期が終わると彼女と会えなくなることが未だに想像できません。学校が始まって２日目に今度一緒にどこかに行こうと計画しましたが、最近になってようやく実現しました。彼女の家にお泊りもしました。彼女のおばあちゃんが作ったメキシコ料理を食べたり、一緒にお寿司を作ったり、スターバックスまで歩いて行ったり、映画を見て夜を過ごしたりしました。計画していたことをたくさんしました。彼女は私に本を貸してくれました。そしてその本を彼女に返すことが出来るように、もう一度会う約束をしました。私は彼女に日本の小包を送り、彼女は私にアメリカの小包を送ることにしました。彼女は私の人生で一番良い子です。

 

あと日本に帰るまで１７日しかありません。日本のクラスメートや家族に会えるのは本当に楽しみですが、まだアメリカの友達にさよならをする心の準備が出来ていません。

Hi, everyone.  It has been a while because I have kept forgetting to turn in the report.  I am sorry.

    It is already the end of the year, so I am going to go back to Japan soon.  My friends are so happy that the year is almost over and summer is coming, however my feelings are mixed.  I met a lot of amazing friends here.  “You just came, became my friends, got closer and you are going back?  You can’t do that!” one of my friends told me one day.  It made me so sad.  But at the same time, I was so happy that I had found many friends that like me and I really like.  Isn’t it wonderful that I found friends that I would go out when we grew up in a year?  I think it is.  My color guard member, my friends who I hang out every day, and my best friend Gissel, all of them are necessary to talk about my year in the U.S.

    I have a lot to talk about.  First, I am so proud of my color guard team.  It was a challenging for me to be in the team.  I knew how to dance, but how to use equipment, such as flag, saber, and rifles.  Even though, my teammates were so kind and taught me how again and again, sometimes I could not do how I wanted to do.  Our practice was two times a week for about 5 hours.  One time, I thought about quitting, but I did not quit, and it was a right decision.  We made finals, and went Las Vegas to compete against some of the best guard in the U.S.  Our high school had not gone that far.  For championships, we ended up in 2nd place.  Of course we wanted to get first place, but we did our best.  I do not know any other guards, but I love my team so much.  I believe that the best decision I made in this year was joining the guard.  

 

    Secondly, I went to prom.  I was not going to go, but my captain, Natalia told me that I had to go, because it was going to be my first and last prom.  So I went.  How awesome that night was!  The day of prom was definitely the night to remember.  It was on the yacht in San Francisco.  It was so beautiful.  Thank to my captain for telling me to go.

 

    My best friend, Gissel made me sushi.  It was the best sushi I ever had.  She is a sweet girl.  I cannot even imagine I am not going to see her after the school year ends.  We had been planning to go out since second day of school, and finally we hung out for the first time recently.  And also I slept over at her house.  We ate her grandma’s Mexican food, made sushi together, walked to get Starbucks and had a movie night.  We did a lot of things that we had been planning to do.  She lent me a book.  We made a promise to meet again, so I can give it back to her.  I will send her a Japanese package, and she will send me a American package.  She is the sweetest girl in my life.  

 

    Now I have just 17 days left.  I am excited to meet my classmates and my family in Japan.  However, I am not ready to say goodbye to my friends here.
