アメリカに留学中の 谷口 裕佳さんから第三回目の留学報告が届きました。

皆さんこんにちは多分２回続けてのレポートになっているのではないでしょうか、谷口です。時の流れが速すぎて、恐ろしく感じます。

最近は元気に家でも学校でも快適に過ごしているのですが、12月のクリスマスの前、そして誕生日の直前と2回もインフルエンザにかかってしまいました。予防接種を受けたのですが、全くの無駄でした。日本でもこんなことなかったのですが、声を失い、咳が止まらなくなるなど、ひどかったです。驚くべきことに、アメリカの学校ではインフルエンザによる出席停止制度がなく、みんなインフルを引きながら学校に来ます。なので時期は一斉にみんなインフルをひくという感じです。

12月の終わりから、いろいろなことがありました。冬休みはとっても短く21日頃から3日までという本州よりも短いと思われる期間でした。年越しの日には夕飯を食べてから、ホストペアレントの友達宅にお邪魔し、花火をし、おしゃべりしながら新年を迎えました。みんな時間をあまり気にしておらずカウントダウンなどもなく気が付いたら越した年越しでしたが楽しかったです。日本とは変わってアメリカは年越しよりクリスマスのほうが盛り上がりますね。ファザーの誕生日には初めてシスターの一人と会い、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。私の誕生日にはASSEのエリアトリップで州都に行き、州議会を見たり、スカイゾーンというトランポリンが楽しめる建物で楽しんだ後、コーディネーターがサプライズカップケーキとTシャツを用意してくれて、さらに歌も歌ってくれて素敵な誕生日を過ごすことができました！　

この留学生活も終わりに近づいていますが、毎日いろんなことがあって、つまらないこともあるし、いらいらすることももちろんあります。しかし、いろんな経験、初めての体験ができています。留学を考えている方へ。じっくり考えてみてください。高校二年生は入試にとってとっても重要な期間です。同時に、頭のまだ柔い高校生は留学にとってもいい時期でもあります。親から離れ、母国からも離れ、違う文化の中で過ごすことはとても魅力的です。状況があまりよくないことも稀ではありません。イメージしていた学校とは違うことだってもちろんあります。でも否定的にばかり考えず、自分に何があるか、その状況を精一杯楽しむには自分は何が出来るか考え、ホストや団体に任せるだけでなくじぶんで留学をよりよく作ってください。それができれば、人として大きく成長できるのではないでしょうか。

Hi everyone! I think this report will be a continuous posting and a little bit annoying. Sorry but please forgive about that. Anyway, my life in US became shorter and shorter. Before I came here, many people surprised how long it is, but actually it’s not that long. Now I’m only have less than 90 days, even past 7month was so fast so, I’m so scared that how fast the least of my life in here will be.

    Lately, I’m doing pretty good both school and home, but I got influenza in end of December before the Christmas and middle of February right before my birthday. I got flu shot but it’s nothing work, still I got flu. It was awful, I was stay home, lost my voice, nonstop coughing, heavy headache and it was so bad. Surprisingly, school in US don’t have official absent with influenza! Then, most of kids go to school if they got flu and spread flu. Especially these season, take care yourself even in Japan!

     From end of December I experienced many things. In Christmas, I got ton of gifts also, I gave gifts too. We had nice fluffy snow and white Christmas. And the Christmas winter break in U.S were pretty short. It was started in about 21^st of Dec then over in January 3rd. I was so surprised about that. Because even in south side of japan has longer winter break, I guess. In New Year’s Day, we played monopoly after supper, then we went to parents’ friends home and enjoyed fire work. But funny thing, every one of them were enjoyed with fireworks and chitchat so they didn’t do countdown or so on. I felt new year’s is less important than Christmas. After that, we had host father’s birthday and it was the first time to meet one of host sister. I spend cool time with her! On my birthday, we had asse area trip to Bismarck, the capital city of North Dakota, it was wonderful! We went to state office building and watched committee meeting. After that we ate lunch and went to Sky Zone, athletic place where can enjoy mainly trampoline, that place was so cool and after we enjoyed, our asse coordinator did surprise cup cake for me and gave me sky zone’s original t-shirt, also birthday song! I had really, really good 17^th birthday;).

     I’m almost finishing my exchange year but still I experienced many new things. For me, as an exchange student, study abroad is pretty good experience but I want to say for people who is interested in study abroad but not sure, is “think about future, that what you want to do.” If you don’t have dream and want to find in here in US, it’s okay too. but, think about university too. Junior year is pretty important to university exam. If you are missing Junior year, It will hard to learn whole thing in only about 1/4 of senior year. Good point is high schooler’s brain is much flexible thought you can learn ton of thing with up to oneself. If you decided to become exchange student. You make your year good not only up to host family or situation.
