アメリカに留学中の野崎綾南さんから第3回目の留学報告が届きました。

皆さんこんにちは。前回のレポートを提出してから二か月が経ちましたがその間に期末試験、クリスマス、冬休みなど沢山の出来事がありました。書くことが多くなりそうです(笑)

期末試験(Final Exam)は結果から言うとどの教科も悪くはなかったと思います。音楽、ライティング、スペイン語、アメリカ史、数学の教科に試験があったのですが、ほとんどの試験はすべて選択問題で心配していたアメリカ史も何とか点数を取ることが出来ました。ライティングのクラスは試験がプレゼンテーションの発表だけだったのですが、先生が私ともう一人の留学生のこのプレゼンは免除してくれて原稿提出だけですみました。本当に感謝しています。音楽の試験に関してはまさかのその場で自己採点だったので驚きました(笑)。これから留学に行く人に伝えたいのは学校でスペイン語を取ることです。発音、読み書き、すべて英語より簡単です。ローマ字読みと凄く似ているので点数がとりやすいです。

期末試験が終わるとすぐ冬休みに入りました。家でファミリーとクリスマスパーティーをしたのですがプレゼントの量に驚きました。きっとアメリカやカナダにいる５Gのみんなも私と同じように驚いたと思います。そして冬休み中には一週間ほどケンタッキー州、インディアナ州へマザーとファザーの家族に会いに行きました。牛に餌やりをしたりVRを体験したり楽しかったです。そこでもクリスマスプレゼントをもらいました。新年はコロラドに帰る途中泊まった空港の近くのホテルで迎えましたが日本のようにカウントダウンがある番組を見たわけでもなく気づいたら迎えていたという感じでしたがそれもそれで思い出です。皆言ってますけど、私もガキ使みたかったです…(笑)。

学校は１月１０日から始まりました。授業はAmerican literature(ライティング)、スペイン語、ESL(英語が第二言語の生徒へのクラス)、symphonic band、数学を取っていますが６時間目と７時間目が連続で空いているので６時間目にジャズのクラスを取ろうか担当の先生と交渉中です。このクラスを取るとなると私はトロンボーンを担当することになるのですが小学生のころに２年間ふいていただけなので少し不安ですがせっかくのチャンスなので逃したくありません。ESLのクラスは生徒ほとんどの第一言語がスペイン語でみんなそれを話しているので最初は疎外感がありましたがネパール移住してきた女の子と同じシニアだということもあり仲良くなりました。彼女とはお互いの国の文化について話したりします。話していて楽しいです。正直に話すと前期は後悔がすごく多かったです。自分の英語力にも失望したし、人と全く話さない日もありました。今ならできるであろうこともためらって出来なかったり、とにかく積極的に行動ができなかったことが多かったです。学校に行くのが億劫になることもありました。未だに自分の言いたいことに英語が追い付かず言葉がすぐに出ないこともありますが、それでもとにかく話せば何とか伝わります。発音なんてそこまで重要ではないです。スペイン人の先生、ドイツ人、ネパール人の友達皆それ独特のアクセントがありますが皆普通に話しています。発音のクセは悪いことではなくてアイデンティティーです！友達と話していて「あなたのアクセントかわいくて好きだよ」と言われた時は素直にうれしかったです。

あと一回レポートを書いたらもう日本に帰るんだと考えるとこの留学生活がすごく短いもののように感じます。まだ来て２、３か月の気分ですがとっくに折り返し地点の五か月が過ぎているんです。残り数か月無駄にせず全力でアメリカ生活を楽しみます！

 

Hi, how are you guys doing? I had lots of events such as my final exam, Christmas, and trip to the state of Kentucky and Indiana during last two months. My final exam was not too bad because all of the questions were selected problem, so I could choose the answer even I don’t know the correct answer. I was really worried about the exam of US history, but I got good score than I thought. I had a presentation as final exam in the American literature class, but my teacher made me don’t have to do it and I just turned in the essay. I appreciate about it a lot. Oh I recommend people who are going to study abroad next year to take Spanish class in American school. I’m sure Spanish is easier to write, read, and pronounce than English for Japanese. You can get good grade. During winter break, I spent Christmas with my family, and I was so surprised about the presents. I got much more presents than last year. I think other 5G members were also surprised about it. I also went to the state of Kentucky and Indiana to meet my grand host parents. I also got some presents there! I fed the cows, used VR and I experienced other new things.

My school started on January 10^th, I took class of American literature, Spanish, ESL, symphonic band, and Algebra2. I also think about take Jazz class on 6th period. I will play the trombone if I take it, I used to play it over 4 years ago, so I’m a little worried about it. However I will do my best if I take the jazz class. Most of the students speak Spanish in ESL, I felt lonely first time, but I got along with my friend who is from Nepal. We enjoy talking about the culture about our country.

Honestly, I regretted last semester, I didn’t feel that my English was improved, I was afraid to speak English, I was disappointed about myself. Sometimes I still feel my English is not good especially my accent, but I realized that my pronunciation, accent is my identity! And my friend told me that she likes my accent, it made me happy. I speak, and people understand me, it’s fine for me.

I’m going to go back to japan soon when I make my fourth report 2 months later. I feel my studying abroad is really short because it’s been 5 months already. I will do my best for all of things in the US after the 5 months.
