アリゾナ州ハイランド高校に留学中の佐藤萌花さんから第３回目の留学報告が届きました。

 みなさんこんにちは！北海道はもう雪も積もり真っ白になっているのではないでしょうか。アリゾナは雪が降るどころかまだまだ昼間は15℃程で体感的には秋のような日々を過ごしています。そんな気候なので最近はお腹の調子が悪い佐藤萌花です。体調管理ちゃんとしないと駄目ですね。さて、今回のテーマは文化の違いと言うことで、私かこれまでに感じた日本とアメリカの違和感や違いについて紹介していきたいと思います。日本語と英語で内容を変えるのでどちらも読んでくれると嬉しいです。

まずは学校で感じた違いについて紹介します。私の学校にはsprit week というものがあってその週は一日ごとにテーマが決められていて、大体3分の１ぐらいの生徒が仮装しています。一番凄かったのはハロウィンです。コスプレや傷メイク、女装などなど。クオリティもかなり高くてさすがアメリカ人！という感じですね。次に先月私が遭遇した事件について話します。みなさんはlock downという言葉を聞いたことがあるでしょうか。何か学校内で事件があった際、校内の生徒たちを教室などの部屋に教師と籠り警察が来ることを待つ動きらしいです。そしてなんと私はそのlock downに遭遇しました！学校についてわずか20分後の出来事で直前までトイレにいた私はlock downに遅れすでに全ての教室に鍵がかかっていました。とりあえず歩き回っていたら同じく逃げ遅れた生徒二人と先生を見つけ保護してもらうことに。友達とのチャットで誰からか学校に爆弾があると通報があり、こんなことになっていると知りました。怖いですね。そのあとは警察が来るのを待ち、近くの中学校に避難し、マザーに迎えに来てもらいました。爆弾がどこにあるかわからないため、荷物はケータイ以外置き去りに。午後メールで一時開校すると連絡があったのでその時に荷物を取りに行きましたがまだ警察がいました。その後の情報で爆弾はなかったそうで嘘の通報と知りました。また、爆弾の代わりに違法薬物（マリファナやコカイン）が見つかったそうです。さすがアメリカ、身近に危険と日本との違いを感じました。５Ｇのみんなも気をつけてね！

次はthanks giving について話します。Thanks givingとはたくさんの料理を作り、収穫を祝うお祭りのようなものです。私のファミリーは大家族で、結婚した三人の子供と孫たち、その姪や甥といった親戚がそれぞれの料理を持ち寄り、食べました。ターキー、ハム、マシュマロを乗せたスイートポテト、チーズケーキにパンプキンパイ…。どれもとてもおいしかったです。ちょっと衣服がきつくなったのは別の話…。(笑) thanks giving のために家の外を装飾している家もありました。今はクリスマスシーズンで夜は装飾の明かりで輝いています。こんなに飾るか！ってくらい外も中も輝かせます。またキリスト教徒が多いということもあり必ずと言って良いほどキリストの誕生を模したオブジェクトがあります。（マリアとヨセフ、キリスト）これらを通して私は、アメリカでは一つ一つのイベントや文化を大事にしていると感じました。

そんなこんなでこのレポートも終わりが近づいてきました。約5か月過ごして思ったことは「立った1年しかいないんだからちょっとくらいわがままになってもいいよね！」です。(笑)もちろん女王みたいに踏ん反り変えるわがままじゃありません。英語力を上げるわがままです。と言っても私の英語力はまだまだです。残りの半年、英語力向上のため頑張っていきたいと思います！英語劇の練習がそろそろ始まると聞きました。５Ｆのみんな、頑張ってね！

Hey guys! What are you going? There is a lot of snow and looks white in Hokkaido isn’t it? In AZ, they never have snow, so I don’t feel winter. I need take care of my condition. I will write about culture in America as a report.

First, I talk about difference in school. I wrote before, every time we have to move our class in 5 minutes. Some of my friend’s class room is so far, so she is always late 1-2 minutes. And first time I was so surprised that is distance of friend in America. Because they hug with friend if they gender is difference. I was requested hug from my guy friend, but I refused, said “that is too much friendship for me”. Well there are couple who are kissing in hall way. You know, there are nothing like that in Japan. In addition, there are a lot of event. For example, home coming, winter dance party, sprit week, football game…. Especially football game was very popular and every Friday in 3rd class, we cheer up our team. We were singing “fight song” and jumping…. That was so fun!

Next, I introduce about difference in Family. I felt their love are clearly. Especially for family. My host mam and dad still kiss before go out anywhere, and children (include me) give they hug after get up, go out anywhere and before go to bed. I heard they tell us their love sometime. First time, I felt embarrassed, but now I feel I can join part of family. And my host family is Christian, so we go to church every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning. Adults reading bible and hearing pastor talking, children discussing todays place of bible. They have an own opinion for bible. That is still hard for me but I have fun to listening other thought and speak own opinion.

Well, I talk about my Christmas. That was awesome! I got gift that I couldn’t count. Especially mom and dad gave me gift least 5! I was so surprised. In dinner, we ate beef, turkey, sweet potato and. I suggest eat sweet potato with brown sugar and marshmallow. That was very good. Almost event, mam and her daughter Stephane made food, and other people grab each dish. That can say one of culture.

Now, time to finish. How about this report? I have many event November and December. Thanksgiving, chore concert, secret Santa party in club and with friends and Christmas. Of course, I had final examination. So, I spend time fun and hard. But I’m enjoying my life! I’m going to trip to California from the day after tomorrow! So, I will stay there at the beginning of the new year. I’m looking forward to the trip! I wish you guys have a good time in new year too! We will meet next time report! Happy new year!
