アメリカのカリフォルニア州、セントラル・バレー高校に留学中の佐々木萌里さんから第2回目の留学報告が届きました。

 

こんにちは、萌里です。お元気ですか。私は元気です！！こちらでも寒くなってきていますが、北海道程ではありません(笑)。こちらは雪が降らないんです。でも私は雪が嫌いなので、雪がなくても平気です。セーターを着るだけでいいので、とても楽です。

 

ハロウィーンはどのように過ごしましたか。私はタコスに変装してユニバーサルスタジオハリウッドに行きました。「ホラー・ナイト」って知っていますか。ユニバーサルスタジオジャパンでも同じイベントがあると思います。行ったことはありませんが。俳優たちが脅かすのでとても怖かったです。生きて帰ってこられて良かったです。

 

11月には同じ機関で留学しているCHIの仲間たちとサンフランシスコに旅行に行きました。サンフランシスコはとても素敵な街です。世界中から総勢30名の留学生で行きました。皆でアメリカでの経験を分かち合ったり、ホームシックのことを話したり、とても楽しかったです。また会える日を楽しみにしています。

 

ドイツからの留学生で私のルームメイトのお話をしたいと思います。私たちはとても仲良しです。違う文化で育っていても、一緒に泣いたり笑ったりしています。私たちは部屋も食べ物も服も思い出も、何でもシェアしています。彼女は日本の文化が大好きなのでとても嬉しいです。この間、サンフランシスコ旅行の時にチャイナタウンで、彼女はお箸ヘルパー（知っています？）を買ったんですよ。彼女が言うには、このおかげでとても生活が楽になったそうです。彼女はとっても面白いんです。カップヌードルを食べるときにそのヘルパーを使っています。私たちは、お互いの国を訪問し合おうって約束したんですよ！彼女と彼女の家族を訪問するのをとても楽しみにしています。ドイツのチョコレートはとても美味しいので、たくさん買おうと思います！

 

明日ダンスショーケースがあります。ダンスは私の一部なので、アメリカでもダンスが出来てとても嬉しいです。それから、月曜日にはクワイアのコンサートがあります。色々なことに参加して友達を作るのが好きです。楽しいことばかりではなく、もうすぐ大きな期末テストが控えています。でも日本の定期テストとは全然違うんですよ。例えば、ダンスのクラスでは、振り付けを考えて、それをテストとして披露するんです。クワイアでは、コンサートがテストの代わりなので、期末テストの日の授業でクリスマスパーティーをします。英語は、風刺画についての発表をします。今それに向けて準備をしています。生物や数学やアメリカ史は普通のテストなので、勉強しなければいけません…勉強します。とても不安ですが、最善を尽くします。そうするしかないと思うので。

 

期末テストが終わると冬休みに入ります。たった2，3週間ですが、クリスマスや新年があるのできっと楽しいと思います。今から待ちきれません！

 

明日のショーケースに備えてもう寝ます。今回はこの辺で。

Hi!  This is Moeri!  How are you doing?  I am doing good!!  It is getting cold here, but not as much as Hokkaido haha.  We do not have snow here.  I do not like snow so it is okay for me!!  I just need to wear sweater…!  That is so awesome.

 

What did you do for Halloween?  I became TACO and I went to Universal Studio Hollywood.  Do you know about “horror night”?  I guess there is the same event in Universal Studio Japan.  I have not been there though.  It was so scary because actors scared me!  I am proud of me that I survived.

 

I had a CHI trip to San Francisco in November.  San Francisco is a very pretty city.  There were 30 exchange students from all around world.  We shared our experiences, talked about homesickness… I had so much fun with them.  I hope I will meet them again. 

 

I would like to talk about my sweet roommate who is an exchange student from Germany.  We get along with each other very very well.  Even we have different cultures, we laugh and cry together!  We share room, food, clothes and memories.  Moreover, I am so glad she likes Japanese culture.  She bought chopstick helper…(do you say that?) in China town, San Francisco.　She said that it makes her life so much easier.  She is so funny.  She uses it for cup noodle. Haha  We promised to visit home countries each other!  I am so excited to visit her and her family.  German chocolates taste so good, so I am going to buy a lot of chocolate!

 

I have a dance showcase tomorrow.  I am happy that I can dance here because it is a part of my life.  And also, I have a choir concert on Monday.  I really like to join something and make friends.  Not only fun events, but also there are finals which are big term tests.  However it is so different from Japanese term tests.  For example, for dance class, we made a choreography and we are going to perform it as a test.  For choir, the concert is going to be grade as a final, so we will have a Christmas party in a class on the day of finals.  For English class, we will do presentation about satire.  We are working on it now.  For biology, math and U.S. history, we have actual tests.  Yes, I need to study… I will.  I am so afraid about it, but I will do my best.  I believe that is all I can do. 

 

After finals, I will be in a winter break.  It is just about 2 or 3 weeks but I am sure I will have fun because we have Christmas and a new year!  I cannot wait them!

 

I will go to bed for the showcase tomorrow!
