カナダのアルバータ州、ＨＪコーディー高校に留学中の植田小里加さんから第5回目の留学報告が届きました。

   Sylvan Lakeよりこんにちは！　植田小里加です。

　はじめに、One Actが終わりました!!　私の所属する劇は、校内、PLT(自習時間)、そして地区大会でパフォーマンスしました。　もちろん私たちの劇は全部よかったと思いますが、特に書きたいのは、ある日のパフォーマンスの後で、Dramaの先生が観客の前で私のことを紹介してくれたことです。会場中から拍手をもらい、嬉しかったです。　地区大会、つまり州大会に進むためのパフォーマンス（各地区から２つの劇だけが州大会に進めます）では、劇をやるだけでなく、他校のパフォーマンスも観ました。それらはコメディ、オリジナル脚本、モノローグ(一人語り)　など、バラエティーに富んでいました。　私が参加した劇は州大会に進めませんでしたが、たくさんの私の学校の生徒が賞を取ったので嬉しかったです。しかも！　私の学校から州大会に進む劇が出ました!!　というわけで州大会の開かれる大学に行ってきました。　たくさんの素晴らしい劇を見たり、ワークショップで大学の先生から教わったり、ダンスもしてきました!!　H.J. Codyからの劇、A Life Sentenceは演技、監督、技術のすべての分野で賞を取りました!!　おめでとう!!　さて、今の私はCast partyを心待ちにしております…笑

 

　次に、参加したイベントのことを書いていこうと思います。まずはWake-a-Thon。Grads、すなわちGrade12限定のイベントで、一晩学校にお泊りして、相撲、ふわふわ(…って言えばいいんでしょうか？　ふわふわアドベンチャーってイベントの、ふわふわのことです。)、ビデオゲームやmurder mystery (参加者が登場人物になりきって推理を進め、殺人事件の犯人を捜す。) などなどの楽しいことをします。　先生からのミッションもこなしました。例えば、炭酸飲料一気飲み、007のテーマソングとともにスパイっぽく演技する、High School Musicalのようにジャンプする、などなど。朝になるころにはみんな疲れていましたが、楽しかったです笑

　他にはBibles for Grad、これもGrads向けのイベントです。ターキーディナー(何区杉敏具やクリスマスで食べる料理)を食べ、大学生のパフォーマンスを見、自分の名前が表紙に書いてある聖書と景品をもらいました!!　私は近所のレストランのお食事券をもらいました。（どうして私が食べるの大好きだってわかったのかしら…なんて。）これもすごかったです。

　あと、ホストシスターと友達と、Calgary Expoに行ってきました。去年エドモントンで見て、とても気にいった絵を、やっと買いました。他には星形の折り紙が入った瓶、90年代のSF雑誌を買いました。うーん、満足。

 

　さて、Spring Breakのある日に、友達と、ギフトカードをもらったレストランに行ってきました。聞いていた通りの、とってもおいしい、いいお店でした。私も友達も聞いたことがなかったRose pastaを食べました。あとは、その日の夕焼けがものすごくきれいでした!!

　最近、学校のニュースチームとサッカーチームに入りました。One Actが終わっても、忙しい日々です。金曜日にはCalgary Zooに、そして来週には合唱の研修＆レコーディングが迫っています!!　一か月後には卒業式が終わっている!!　ああ、早いなあ!!　それもそのはず、これが最後のレポート(…で合っていますか?)　大事なことなのでもう一度言います、早い!!　周りの人たちに「日本に帰るの、わくわくする?」と聞かれます。そう、なんですけど、カナダが惜しくなるだろうとも思います。　ここを離れるぎりぎりまで、できることを精いっぱいしようと思います!!　近いうちに会いましょう：）

 

　追伸　６Fのみんな、英語劇お疲れさま!!　みんなに会うのを、英語劇を観るのを、楽しみにしています!!!　ところで、日本で大きな地震があったと聞きました。また、カナダではFort McMurrayで火事がありました。みんなが一日でも早く、平和に、普通の日々を過ごせますように。

 

    Hello  from Sylvan Lake!!  This is Sarika Ueda. 

    First of all, One Act is done!!  My squad had in-house, PLT (Personal Learning Time) and Zone performances.  Of course, our performances were all good, but I’d like to tell one thing which is one day, after the performance, my drama teacher introduced me in front of audience.  I was so happy because I got applause from everyone in theatre.  In Zone performance which is an acting competition to go to Provincial (Only 2 plays can go to Provincial from each Zones.), we did not only acting, but also watched plays from other schools.  These were varied, like comedy, original scripts, monologue, etc.  Plays which I joined couldn’t make it but many people from my school won acting and directing awards and honorable mentions.  And guess what?  A play from my school made it to Provincial!!  Then we went to the university which is hold Provincial One Act.  We watched AWESOME plays, had workshops by teachers in university and danced!!  The play from our school, A Life Sentence, won awards and honorable mentions in all parts, directing, acting and tech!!  Congratulations!!  Anyway, now I’m waiting for cast party…haha. 

 

    For  second, I gonna tell you events which I joined.  First, I went to Wake-a-Thon.  This event is only for Grads, which is Grade12, staying at school all night and do many fun things such as sumo wrestling, bouncy castle, video games and murder mystery.  We also did missions from teacher.  For example, chugging a pop, acting like a spy with theme song of 007, jumping like High School Musical, etc.  That was so fun though everyone was exhausted in morning, lol. 

The other event which is called Bibles for Grad, is also for Grads.  We had turkey dinner (dishes like Thanksgiving and Christmas), performance by university students, got Bible which is printed name on cover and door prize!!  I got a gift card of local restaurant (How did they know that I love eating…JK) as door prize.  That was wonderful, too. 

    I also went to Calgary Expo with my host sister and friends.  I finally bought a picture which I’ve really liked since I saw it in Edmonton last year.  In addition I bought a bottle with origami stars and 90s sci-fi magazines!!  I’m satisfied with them. 

 

By  the way, I went to the restaurant which I won a gift card with my friend on a day of Spring break.  The restaurant was really good as I’ve heard.  We had Rose pasta because both of us had never heard the name before.  Furthermore, the sunset was sooo beautiful!!

Recently I joined NEWS and soccer team at school.  I’m still busy even One Act is done.  We gonna have Calgary Zoo trip on Friday and Choir trip and recording is in next week!!  On a month after, Grad gonna be already done!!  Hoo, time is fling!!  No wonder, this is my last report (…isn’t it?).  I gonna say this again ‘cause it’s important.  Time is fling!!  People ask me “Are you excited about back to Japan?”.  I do, but I’m sure I gonna miss Canada.  I gonna do my best till the last minute I leave here!!  See you soon 🙂

 

P.S.  Dear friends in 6F, thanks for English play!!  I’m looking forward to seeing you and your play!!!  By the way, I’ve heard the huge earthquake in Japan.  Also in Canada, Fort McMurray had wild fire.  Let me pray everyone’s peace and coming back of ordinary life as early as possible.
