皆さんこんにちは。カナダのマニトバ州に留学中の本木ふらのです。前回のレポートから早くも二か月が経ちました。

私が住んでいるRussellは例年より早く、10月の上旬に雪が降りました。道産子なので雪に慣れているはずですが、なぜかものすごく大はしゃぎしてしまいました（笑）最近は寒い日が続いているのでお湯につかりたくてたまりません。

 

さて、この二か月間の出来事についてお話しします。前回のレポートでお話ししましたが、バレー部に入ったのでこの二か月の間にたくさんの大会がありました。毎回、自分の町から離れたところに行くので日本で言う「遠征」という形で試合をしに行きます。私はセッターとリベロとして何試合か試合に出ました。初めての試合は緊張しましたが、チームメイトがサポートしてくれたおかげでいい試合をすることができました。とても驚いたのは、日本と審判の仕方が全く違うことです。日本では基本的に「線審」というボールがインかアウトか見る人がいるのにこっちでは誰もいないんです！また、副審がいないため主審一人で判定するので何度か判定がめちゃくちゃな時がありました（笑）試合中、「え…」という判定ばかりです（笑）バレーの最後の試合は12月の上旬にあるためバレーができるのも残りわずかです。寂しいですが残りの貴重な時間を大切にしていきたいと思います。また、歌うことが好きなので学校と教会のchoirにも入りました。私は今、練習含めて週に3回歌っているのですがとにかく楽しくてchiorの練習があるときは毎週楽しみにしています。学校のchoirで先日、先生が「アイスホッケーの試合前にカナダの国歌を歌わないか。」という話が全員にあり、私は思い切って立候補し、12月に地元のアイスホッケーの試合前に私一人でカナダの国歌を歌うことになりました！今からとても緊張していますが練習に励んでいます。この様子は次回のレポートで書きたいと思います！

 

話しは変わりますが、先日、バレーの試合をしにBrandonという町に行ったとき、ホストファザーの姪っこさんに女の子の赤ちゃんが生まれたと聞いたので会いに行きました。私はそこで、生まれて4日しか経っていない赤ちゃんを抱くというとても貴重な体験をしました。添付した写真はその時のものです。抱っこした瞬間に、妹や幼馴染の弟が誕生した時を思い出しました。カナダという地で改めて人の誕生ってすごいなと実感できた日でした。

 

 

もうすぐクリスマスや冬休みがあるのでとても楽しみです！近所の家はHalloweenが終わった途端にクリスマス仕様のライトアップがされました。残りの７ヶ月も悔いなく頑張りたいと思います。ここまで読んで下さり、ありがとうございました！それではまた次回のレポートで！

 

 

Hi. I’m Furano. How are you doing? Time goes so fast because I wrote this journal 2 months ago. It snowed earlier than usual this year in Russell. I’m sure I am used to having snow because I was born in Hokkaido but I got too excited! I want to take a bath so much because it’s cold these days.

 

Now, I’ll talk about what happend during this 2 months. I had a lot of volleyball games during 2 months. Our team travel to a lot of places to play volleyball from my town. I played in some games as a setter and a receiver. I was nervous because those were the first games in Canada for me. Thanks to my teammates, I could have good games. I was very surprised because the referee is completely different from Japan. There are some linespersons in Japan but there aren’t anyone! Moreover, the assistant referee isn’t there so the chief umpire judge by oneself. I was so confused because the chief umpire didn’t make a right call.   Anyway I will have the last game in December so I’ll do my best the next time as well. Also, I joined the school choir and the church choir because I like to sing. I sing three times a week now, and it’s so fun! So I’m looking forward to practicing every time. The other day, the school choir teacher said us “Why don’t you sing O Canada before the hockey?” So I ran the plunge for singing “O Canada” and I’ll sing it by myself before the hockey game in December. I’m nervous in a good way. I’m practicing hard now so I’ll talk about that next in my report.

 

By the way, when I went to Brandon to play volleyball, I heard that my hostfather’s niece gave birth to a girl so I went and met her. I held the baby who had been only 4 days old since she was born in my arms. Please see attached photos. The instance I hold, I remembered when my sister and my childhood friend’s brother were born. I realized it’s awesome to be born anew.

 

I’m looking forward to coming Christmas and the winter vacation!  Some neiborhood house were lighted up as soon as the halloween finished. I’ll spend the rest of my life in Canada with no regrets. Thank you for reading my report. See you soon!!
