アメリカに留学中の村山　ひなたさんから第二回目の留学報告が届きました。

皆さん、こんにちは。

ネバタ州ラスベガスの村山　ひなたより2回目のレポートです。

アメリカのほうに来てから、早いもので５か月が過ぎました。ユニバーサルスタジオ、ハリウッド、サウスダコタ、ファッションショーモールに行くなど、日本にいた時には想像もしていなかったような出来事がたくさん起こりました。しかしながら、私にとって最も印象深い経験は、素敵な人々との出会いです。ホストファミリーをはじめ、ご近所さん、コーディネーター、先生方、友人といった人々のおかげで、毎日が充実しているのだと強く感じます。

 

私の学校には、20人程の留学生が在学しており、他校と比べてもかなり多いそうです。面白く、秀才で、素晴らしい生徒ばかりで、彼らとの交流の中で、新しい文化や英語を学んでいます。スペイン、ドイツ、イタリア、フランス、スウェーデン、ノルウェーといったヨーロッパ圏からの留学生が、そのうちの17人を占め、割合的にも多いことがわかります。彼らは、英語を流暢に話し、かなり成績も良いです。ボロを上げるとすれば、スペインの留学生が、時々、スペイン語訛りの英語、通称“スパングリッシュ”を話していて、実に個性的です。聞いたところによると、ヨーロッパでは、小学生の時には、当然のように英語を学び始めるそうです。私も、もっと早くから始めて、多くの洋書を読んでおけばと思ってしまう時もあります。いくら嘆いたところで、過去は変えられないので、追いつくためには努力するのみですね。

 

最近では、1月後半にシーズンを迎える陸上（Track and Field）のトレーニングが緩やかと始まりました。今時期は、ウォーミングアップに軽く走った後に、ジムで体幹や筋トレをしています。実のところ、早く本格的に走る練習がしたいです。アメリカでは、部活動が季節ごとに分かれているので、時にはスポーツに熱くなり、時にはオフシーズンとして家族や友人との時間、好きなことをする時間が持てます。私は、この制度をとても気に入っているのですが、やはり、日本の部活動の絆が恋しいです。なぜなら、昨シーズン（秋）に行っていた、クロスカントリーが終わりを迎えても、誰も泣いておらず、名前すら知らないメンバーがいたからです。こちらでは、個々が独立しているので、わりと当たり前のことみたいです。そこで、日本の引退する先輩・その後輩が見せる涙は本当に美しいなと改めて実感しました。アメリカで過ごしていく中で、日本の良さをいくつも見つけ、自国がますます好きになりました。もちろん、アメリカも好きです。特に、誕生日やベイビーシャワー、ハロウィン、クリスマスと言った行事を盛大にお祝いするところ、ハグのように気持ちを行動で表すところが好きです。どの国にも、良い点となかなか好ましくない点はあるものです。

留学というのは、それを知る最高の手段だと思います。

Hello everyone. I am Hinata Murayama.

This is my second report from Las Vegas, NV to Japan.

I came to the U.S. in July, and 5 months has passed. I feel like it’s gone by so quickly. A lot of great things that I never expected, have happened in these months. I went to Universal Studio, Hollywood, South Dakota, and Fashion Show Mall (a big mall on the strip). However, my best experience in my study abroad is that meeting wonderful people, such as my neighbors, friends, teachers, coordinator, and host family. They have shown me such a great time.

 

In my school, Shadow Ridge High School, there are about 20 exchange students, which is a lot. They are so funny, amazing, and smart. When I hang out with them, I learn new cultural things and English. I know 17 of them are from Europe area, including Spain (6), Germany (4), Italy (3), France, Sweden, and Norway. They speak English well and their grades at school are high most of the time, but sometimes they have their own English intonation, like “Spanglish” (the language mixed Spanish and English). From what I understand, their English education started when they were in elementary school, unlike Japan which starts in middle school. I wish I had started learning English more earlier and read more books, but I know I can’t change the past, so I just need to make efforts to catch up or pass them.

 

I just started Track and Field. The season starts late in January, but we just started training for the season. The main menu is core and weight training, so after warming up with running, we go to the gym. I don’t have strong muscles, so I want to start running as soon as possible. I did also Cross country in the fall. The American club system is a 4 season separated system, so we can choose no sport during off season, spend time with family, friends and do whatever we want to do. During sports season, we can work hard and enjoy sports. I love this system, but I also miss Japanese “BUKATSU”, club, culture because of bond with the “BUKATSU” companion is super strong. The tears for retired “Senpai”, the seniors, are beautiful and show how strong of a bond they have. When cross country finished, no one was crying. I felt lonely, because there were members who I didn’t even know. That’s normal here, because each person is independent, and 3 or 4 months, is too short of a time to know each person. In coming to the U.S, I find that the Japanese have beautiful heart, and I love Japan more now than when I was in Japan. Of course, I love the U.S., too. I love that the culture celebrates many events, including birth days, baby showers, Halloween, Christmas, and more, are celebrated grandly. Also, I love that U.S. culture shows affection with action like hugs.

Every country has good point and bad point.

I think study abroad is the best way to learn both side.
