アメリカに留学中の 浦城　由羽さん から第四回目の留学報告が届きました。

 

Hi, you all. I am Yu living in TN. How are you doing? I know new schoolyear started already in Japan,and weather is unstable. Everyone take care of yourselves! 

   I’m gonna write about my birthday first as I told last time. My birthday is Jan 12, the day was wonderful. I got Rubik’s Cube, my favorite American candy, lots of chocolates and birthday wishes from my friends at school, and my friend who in Japan sent me long affectionately message. I was grateful to my lovely friends for making amazing birthday memories. They were absolutely amazing, and made my birthday all the more special. Also I must not forget my people when I write about my 17th are my  host parents. They brought me to fabulous restaurant and gave me big chocolate cake. In addition, they planned NYC trip for me, gave me Cirque du Soleil ticket for Las Vegas trip. Their celebrating was continuing until next day, then we went to Dixie Stampede. It was very interesting to see. We ate course dinners, watching show of horses, buffaloes and cattle. First time I herd about it I can’t understand that eat dinner with animal shows because it is totally y different two things, but it was really good and and I felt oh it’s obviously American-ish. 

   Next I’ll talk about field trip to Hawaii. It was awesome and too much fun. I was touched everything about I did in Hawaii. Waikiki beach was extremely beautiful, clear and I have been became speechless fist time I saw. There is fudge people who are from around world, of course Japanese too. Swimming at beach on January is very fantastic to me because you know we can swim at beach during short summer time. I went to many places, such as be written on magazines. It became precious experiences in my life, and I wanna say thank you to my family. 

   February was coming, then I went to NYC. It has a big problem when we arrived at airport to leave for NYC, airplane delayed 4 hours because of fog! However our airplane eventually arrived, as a result of this delay that has changed our plan too much. Anyway trip was great, we visited museum of natural history, NewYork library, The Met, 9.11 memorial and wherever we wanted to go. The Metropolitan museum was the my best museum ever, i desired to go there every time before I came USA! My the one of things to do before i die has came true! I have been extremely excited at the met while I was in there, then I lost my family but after 4 hours we was able to see again.Sometimes people say about the museum is too large to see everything in a day, it is obvious and I truly felt same things with people. If you are planning or you’re gonna go there some time, I strongly recommend that you go with your most comfortable shoes!! I wanna talk more about trip but If I wrote all of my memory, could be I can see sunset at that time. So I am moving on. 

   Finally I can talk about normal things ! Well I can have written, my host family, friends and teacher speak English with southern accent. I met my host family at airport for the first time, I was dying to listen their English. I totally didn’t understand most part of their talking. I thought where I am now, this is like different language, but you know me, it was not big problem to me at that time. I came to understand them so much much better and I got used to hear that since after weeks, and right now I think I became really good listener of southern accents. I don’t know I became good talker of southern accent lol I mean if you are family has accent, it doesn’t matter because you would be used to. 

    Have you eaten corn bread before ? I guess I had never eaten them until I came to TN and my family. I don’t know what i should explain for your understandable imagination of its but it’s basically bread of corn meal. My family cook lots of country food for every meal. Among them, cornbread is high frequency that eat. And I ate it for today’s lunch lol If it has extra after meals , we eat cornbread soaking into milk! It’s my favorite, cornbread that became easy to crumble and drying out change great dessert! I love that. If you had opportunity of eating cornbread, you should try! 

    My friends are very funny and constantly so silly. I go to Waffle House with my friend for breakfast, it is a lot of fun but usually sleepy. My town is small and doesn’t have mall, we have Walmart, Taco Bell, Waffle House, and something to eat place. Sometimes I go to shopping mall of Morristown with my friends or my family for shopping or hanging out but usually we go to town. Since I came here,I have been thinking that wanna drive because nothing to do without car! I wish I can come back to here, if I became age that can drive. 

   Since early march, prom boom is coming. I was eventually asked from boys who are same school students. But I had person in other school who I have been wanting to go to prom long while. My friend who is my best guy friend in school was upset about my prom partner, and said I was gonna be your partner lol Anyway, I am gonna go to prom with best person to me. Lately i went shopping for prom. I bought  beautiful gorgeous dress, I can’t wait I go to prom with my date! I would show you my dress and prom in next report!

みなさんこんにちは！テネシーに留学中のゆうです。お元気ですか？札幌はまだまだ寒そうですね、みなさん体には気をつけてください！英語と日本語では書いた日にちが違うため内容が異なります。

    

この前のレポートに書いたように、私の素敵な誕生日についてかいていきます。私の誕生日は一月十二日、新しいセミスターがすでに始まっていたころで、学校で朝からチョコレートやtop tartsといった私の大好きなお菓子をはじめとして、マグカップやルービックキューブ、手紙やおめでとうというメッセージなんかを友達からもらいました。そして日本にいる私の親友たちからも長い愛のこもったメッセージを受け取り、その日は一日中誕生日でよかったと心の底から思いました。彼らは私の誕生日をいつもよりももっと特別なものにしてくれました、素晴らしい思い出を作ってくれたすべての私の愛おしい友達に感謝しています。また、私のアメリカでの誕生日を語るうえで忘れてはいけない存在は、もちろん私のホストファミリーです。彼らは、雰囲気のいいレストランでの美味しいディナーと17本のろうそくをつけたチョコレートづくしの大きなケーキをプレゼントされ、それに加えて、冬休みのニューヨークシティへの旅行と春休みのラスベガス旅行でのシルクドソレイユのチケットを貰いました！それらだけでも十分すぎるくらい特別で嬉しいプレゼントだったのですが、次の日にはDixie Stampedeに連れていってもらいました。私たちはそこでバッファローやロングホーンそれに馬のショーをみながら、次々と運ばれてくる料理を食べたのですが、最初その説明を家でmaw mawから受けた時は、全く想像できなくて何をいってるんだと心配でした笑 すごく楽しいショーと美味しい料理で満足しましたし、アメリカっぽさを感じられて良かったです。

 

次に私はハワイでのフィールドトリップについて書いていきます。その時間は楽しくて楽しくて、もしも一言で表すなら“やばかった“が1番適切かもしれません。ハワイで見たすべてのもの、ハワイでしたすべてのことがどれも私を感動させました。ワイキキビーチ前のホテルに宿泊したためビーチには数え切れないほど行きましたが、1番最初に見た時は言葉を失いました。海水は透き通っていて水色でキラキラと光るビーチは本当に美しかったです。ハワイには当然のように沢山の日本人がいて、たくさんのいろいろな国の旅行者がいました。日本では短い夏の間のひと時しか海に入れないので、一月に海に入って常夏っていいなと改めて感じました。七日間の間で本当に沢山の有名な観光地を見て回れましたし、日本食も食べれてハワイに行って本当に幸せでした。私に人生初のハワイを味合わせてくれた私の日本にいるファミリーにとても感謝しています。

 

そして二月があっという間にやってきて、私達家族はニューヨークシティへ！しかし旅行当日、空港の周りが霧で覆われてしまい、飛行機が4時間遅れ、朝早く起きて空港に向かった私達にとってはそれはそれは長い待ち時間でした。結局4時間遅れてついたニューヨークシティは退勤時間に丸かぶりで大混雑で、一日目はあっというまに終わってしまったのです。それでも残りの三日間で私たちが行きたいところすべてを見回ることが出来、旅行はすっごく楽しかったです。自然史美術館、メトロポリタン美術館、ニューヨーク図書館、9.11メモリアルをはじめ沢山のとこに行きました！中でもメトロポリタン美術館は私の人生史上最高の美術館でしょう、アメリカに来る前から行きたいな行きたいなと思っていたたんです。私の死ぬまでにしたいことの一つがこのトリップで叶いました！私は美術館では終始興奮していたせいか、家族とはぐれてしまいましたが四時間後それぞれに特別みたい物を見終わったうえで、自然と再開することができました笑 メトロポリタン美術館は広すぎて一日じゃすべてを見て回れないと沢山の人が言いますが、それは明らかで私も同じように感じました。もしもメトロポリタン美術館に行く予定をたててるかたがいましたら、平らで歩きやすい靴を履いてくことを強くお勧めします！

もっとたくさんの旅行での思い出や出来事について書きたいところですが、すべてを書いてしまうと日が暮れてしまうので、次に進みます！

 

遂に通常の生活のことについてお話しできます！これは書いたかもしれませんが、私の家族、友達、先生はみんな南部訛りの英語を喋ります。1番最初に空港でホストファミリーに会っとき、彼らの英語を聞き取ることで必死でしたが、彼らの話の大体の部分を理解していませんでした。特に私のmaw mawの英語が、、、、笑

違う言語を聞いているような気持ちでしたが、まぁ私のことなので感覚とノリで楽しくて、それは大きい問題ではありませんでした。彼らの英語をたくさんら理解できるようになって、慣れたのは1週間後くらいでしょうか。いまとなっては私はとても良いテネシー英語の聞き手となったと思います。私がテネシー英語の話し手になったかは分かりませんが笑もしホストファミリーの英語が訛っていても大丈夫です慣れますよ！みんなにもテネシー英語いつか聞かせたいです笑

 

コーンブレッドを皆さん食べたことがありますか？私はテネシーに来るまで、私の家族に会うまで食べたことがなかったです。皆さんが理解できるイメージを持てるように説明したいですが、コーンブレッドは基本的にはとうもろこし粉のパンです。私の家族は家でたくさんの南部料理を作りますが、中でもコーンブレッドは高い頻度でパンとしてでてきます。ちなみに今日のランチでもレストランでコーンブレッドを食べました笑 コーンブレッドが余ったらミルクに浸して柔らかくして、スプーンで食べるんですよ？ 乾いたパサパサのコーンブレッドが甘くて柔らかくなるので私は大好きです。試してみてくださいね！

私の友人たちはみんな少し変で面白いです。日本にいる友達もだいたいそうですが笑朝ご飯に学校近くのワッフルハウスにいきますが、だいたい眠いです。ワッフルとハッシュブラウンはおいしいです。日本で朝ご飯を友達と食べに行ったことがなかったきがするので、楽しんでます！私の街はど田舎でモールもありませんし、あるとしたらウォルマートとファストフード店ですから、遊ぶといってもそこに行って何か食べるくらいですが楽しくないわけではありませんよ！たまに隣町のショッピングモールに行きますが、隣町といっても遠いので一番近いと言われてもと最初の方はおもっていました笑 なんでも、要は慣れです！アメリカに来てから免許を取りたくてしょうがありません、私が車を運転できるようになったら、ここにきたいなと最近いつもいってます。叶うといいですね～。

三月初めくらいからプロムブームというか、プロムの話題が出始めました。誰と行くのー？とか彼氏できたーとか。同じ学校の男の子が誘ってくれたり、まぁしたことはしたんですが、私ずっと一緒にプロムに行きたかった違う学校の男の子がいまして！私の親友なんかは怒って自分がなるつもりだったのに別の学校の人といくなんてといってくれました嬉しいですねぇ、でも何週間前の話なのに昨日も英語のクラス中に皆んなにその事をいいふらしたんですよ、ほんとに困った友人です笑 とりあえず私は、一番いきたかった男の子といくのですごく楽しみにしていました！実はもう終わってしまったのですが次のレポートで書きたいと思います。

 

次は春休みの旅行についてからおつたえしますね！時の流れがわたしのレポートは酷く乱れていてごめんなさい！ではみなさん春を楽しんで下さいね。
