カナダマニトバ州ヴィンセント・マッセイ高校に留学中の五十嵐みなみさんから第１回目の留学報告が届きました。

　こんにちはみなさん、元気にしてますか？私はとても元気です。このレポートが私の最初のレポートになります。楽しんで読んでくれたら嬉しいです。ここに来てから既に３３日が経過しました。時間の流れは私の想像以上に速いです。だから私はこの地で絶対に価値のある時間を過ごすことをここに誓います。

 

　私はホストファミリーのデーブ、シャーリーと素晴らしい時間を過ごしています。ホストは本当に素敵な人で既に大好きです。カナダについてからの始めの２週間、他の日本人留学生と一緒に教会でカナダについての研修がありました。ほとんど知らない人でしたが、２週間の間に友情を築き今ではとても仲良しです。

 

　私のホストファザーのデーブは本当に人と話すのが好きで、全く知らない人でもすぐ声をかけます。なのでいつもどこかへ出かける度に私は大量の知り合いを作れます。今まで何人の人と話したかは計り知れません笑　また、毎朝おはようと伝えるために階段を下りると、彼は「グッドモーニングサンシャイン！」「グッドモーニングパンプキン！」「グッドモーニングマイリトルプリンセス！」と彼の笑顔とともに挨拶をしてくれます。これが１日の始まりのサインでもあり、あたしを元気づけてくれます。　

 

　とある日、私はお好み焼きを作りました。私はカナダ人はお好み焼きをそんなに好かないと思っていたのですが、みんなお好み焼きが大好きでした！笑　全員のプレートが空になった時は本当に驚きました。それと同時に日本を久々に感じ、私はお好み焼きを２つも食べました笑　食べ物といえば、カナダ料理は私にとって最高です。日本にいた時はいつも私はダイエットしていたのですが、今ではおなかがいっぱいでも食べ続けてます笑笑　多分日本にいる友達は信じられないと思いますが事実です。でも和食が恋しいのも事実です。多くのスーパーで寿司、カレー、お菓子、ラーメンなどの日本食を売ってますが、寿司は日本の寿司とかけ離れてます…なので来年留学する４年生はできるだけ留学前に寿司を日本で食べておくべきですね笑笑

 

　ところで私の新しい町、ブランドンは既に私に愛されてます笑　日本にいた時はブランドンのことを本当に小さな町で、買い物も外食も遊ぶ場所もないだろうと思っていましたが全然違います。ブランドンにはショッピングモールも大きなスーパーもレストランもたくさんあります。実際のブランドンにはマクドナルド、ティムハートン、ケンタッキー、タコベル、バーガーキング、お気に入りのエーアンドダブリューなどのファストフード店が一つの通りに沿って建っているのです。札幌と同じような街とは言えませんが、ブランドンは私にとっては快適な場所です。

 

　次にウィニペグに行った時の話をさせてください。ウィニベグはマニトバ州の都市で、ホストの息子さんに会うために既に２回ほど行ってます。息子さんは本当に親切で、長男は二人子供がいるので一緒に遊びます。そこで子供たちに日本からのお土産をプレゼントしました。男の子には箸のセット、女の子には浴衣をプレゼントしました。二人とも気に入った様子でよかったです。けれど女の子は浴衣の長い袖がどうにも着心地が良くなかったようで、それもそれで面白かったです。いつか私も彼女と一緒に浴衣を着たいです。その晩、私は気づいたのです… 英語で最も難しいのは子供の英語を聞き取ることなのだと！笑　このレポートを読んでいる人は不思議に思っているか笑っているかもしれませんが本当です笑　その晩に私は子供たちに寝る前に絵本を読んであげました。私にとってはそれは大仕事だったのでちょっと緊張しましたが、無事やり遂げられました笑　子供たちとバイバイするとき彼らは私にハグしてくれてとってもかわいかったです。

 

　今週から学校生活が始まります。私の夢見ていた学校がもうすぐ始まる！ワクワクしてます笑　１回目のレポートが長くなって申し訳ないです… けれど、これは私の留学が有意義であることをも意味しているので許してください笑　さよなら！

 

　Hi guys. How are you doing? I’m really good. It gonna be my first report, please enjoy my report! Already 33days has passed since coming here. Time is going so quickly than I thought. So, I never spend waste time in Canada.

 

Now I’m spending an amazing time with my host parents, Dave and Shirly. They are so nice. I’ve already loved them so much. First 2 weeks, I did an orientation at the church to learn about Canada with other Japanese students. I didn’t know about most of them, but we could make a good friendship, so now we are really good friends.

 

My host father, Dave really loves to talk with people even he doesn’t know, so when we hang out somewhere, I can make some friends whatever I want. So I can’t count how many people I talked before. Also every morning, I go to down stairs to say good morning, he says “Good morning, Sunshine!” “Good morning, Pumpkin!” “Good morning, my little princes!” with his big smile. This is the sign for starting the day, it makes me happy and fine.

 

One day, I made an okonomiyaki at my house. I was thinking maybe Canadian people don’t like okonomiyaki. But they loved okonomiyaki!!!!! I was so surprised, cuz all of their plates was empty. It was amazing. At the same time, I felt Japanese, so I ate 2 okonomiyaki, haha. Talking of food, Canadian food is good for me. When I’m in Japan, I loved diet, but now I keep eating even I’m full. I think my friends in Japan can’t believe this thing, but it’s true. But I’m missing Japanese food too. Some supermarkets sell Japanese food such as sushi, curry rice, snacks, ra-men… But sushi is different from Japanese, so girls gonna be exchange student next year should eat sushi in Japan as possible as they can before leaving Japan.

 

Anyway my new hometown, Brandon is loved by me, haha. When I’m in Japan, I thought Brandon is so small town, I will not be able to do anything such as shopping, lunch, playing… But it was different! There are shopping molls, big supermarkets, restaurants, many shops are in Brandon! Actually there are too many fast food restaurants, McDonald’s, Tim Horton, KFC, TACO BELL, burger king, A＆W(my favorite), these restaurants are built along just one street. I cannot say same as Sapporo, but Brandon is a comfortable town for me.

 

Next, let me talk about my little visiting to Winnipeg. Winnipeg is a capital city of Manitoba. I have been there to see host’s sons couple times. They ware so nice guys. Their oldest son has already two children, so I played with them. At there, I gave the grandchildren presents from Japan, the chopstick sets for the boy, a yukata for the girl. Both of them liked that. The girl hated the yukata’s long sleeve, cuz it was uncomfortable for kid, it was funny. Someday, i’m gonna wear yukata with her together. It must be good. But one thing, I had a problem at there… I realized the most difficult thing is listening to children’s English! Maybe you are wondering or laughing. But it’s true. At the night, I read a book for kids before sleeping. It was a pretty big deal for me, so i felt little bit nervous, but i did. When we said them good-bye, they gave me a hug, it was pretty cute.

 

This week, my school life will start. My school dreamed will coming soon!

 

I’m sorry for my first report is so long. But also it means I’m living life to the fullest, haha. Bye bye! –M

 

Ps: one day, the woman who met me 2weeks ago said me your English is better than before! AWESOME! hahaha
