アメリカのインディアナ州、キャッスル高校に留学中の山脇幹子さんから第1回目の留学報告が届きました。

 

こんにちは！もとこです。私は今インディアナ州にいます。アメリカでも私らしく頑張っています。その所為か、学校始まって３週間で風邪をひき、一週間ずっと体調が悪かったです（笑）しかしアメリカでも皆勤賞を狙っている私は根性で学校に行きました。友達も先生も心配してくれて、「愛」を感じました（笑）そんな私の団体はCHIでして、一か月前までカリフォルニアで４週間の研修に参加していました。それではまずそのお話から。

 

　その研修は日本人のみのCHIメンバーで行われました。研修といっても堅苦しいものではなく、毎日決められた施設に行き英語を英語で学ぶというものです。といっても午後はよくゲームをしていました。CHIのメンバーのホストシスターや先生のお子さんが遊びに来てくれて、一緒に遊んだりしました。UNOが恋しいです。こんな常にハイテンションな私でも実は若干シャイ気味なもので・・・最初はやや静か目だったのですがUNOが私の心を開いてくれましたね。ありがとう、UNO！毎週１回はダウンタウンへ行き、ショッピングや食事を楽しみました。ホストファミリーはアウトドアだったので毎日のように色々な所へ連れて行ってくれました。ネタが尽きればバ イクで目的もなくドライブしてくれたりもしました。その中でも一番の思い出はサンフランシスコに連れて行ってくれたことです。とってもきれいな街でした。ジャパンタウンがあり、日本食を食べることができました！幸せだったなぁ。とても楽しかった４週間は本当にあっという間でした。CHIのメンバーは８人なので他の団体に比べたら相当少ないですが、私にとっては多すぎずちょうどよかったです。メンバーも最高です。みんな仲が良くて、帰国後にまた日本で会う約束もしましたからね！ハハハ！CHIシックなうです。

 

　そんな私は飛行機でインディアナ州に。遠すぎて歩けませんよ～～（笑）ちょうど１か月前ですね、インディアナに来たのは。カリフォルニアにいた間に学校はもうすでに始まっていたので、着いた次の日には学校に行かなければなりませんでした。忙しかったなー。そして、その着いた日にはCHIでインディアナにいる留学生のためのオリエンテーションがありました。とはいってもただのお遊びみたいな。けれどもそこにはなんと！同じ学校に通う留学生がいるじゃないか！ということで私は声をかけ、友達になれました。学校生活で友達作りには苦労しませんでした！一番留学するにあたって心配していたことなのですが、初日に作れましたね。授業はついていけている方だと思います。全く何やっているのかわからなかったアメリカ史が今となっては大好きです。コーラスのクラスには負けますけどね。提出物の多さにはびっくりですが結構成績に大きく反映されそうなので頑張っています。とにかく！楽しい学校生活を送っています。ホストファミリーもとても優しくて、不満は一つもありません！しかしホストマザーが妊娠しているため、もう少ししたらホストチェンジしなくてはなりません。とても悲しいです。インディアナに来て初日に知らされたので驚きはハンパなかったです。そんなこんなで私も今週末にはシニアの友達のバースデーパーティーと、ホストファミリーと一緒にピクニックに行く予定があります。 楽しみなことばかりです。日本が恋しいですが知っている人がいないアメリカでは堂々と生活を送ることができるので、それが留学のいいポイントの一つだと思います。日本でも堂々と生活を送っていたことはここだけの秘密ということで。笑

   Hi!  I’m Motoko.  I’m in Indiana.  I am doing my best be myself in America.  Because of it, I caught a cold and my condition was so bad while a week passed three weeks from starting my school.  However, I went to my school with my GUTS because I aim at a prize for perfect attendance.  I felt “LOVE”.lol  The reason was my friends and teachers worried about me.  I belong to a study abroad organization CHI, so I stayed in California and joined an English Camp for four weeks about one month ago.  First, I’m going to talk about that.

 

   The camp was only Japanese CHI members.  It was not formal because we went to the facility and learned English in English.  We were playing some games in the afternoon.  Host sister of CHI member and children of the teacher came there and we played with them.  I miss UNO.  To tell the truth, I am always high spirits but I am little bit shy…at first, I was a little quiet but I was opened my heart by UNO.  Thank you, UNO!  We went to downtown once a week and enjoyed shopping and lunch.  Host family was an outdoor, so they took me to various places.  Host father drove by motorcycle if his plan ran out.  One of the most precious memories is they took me to San Francisco.  There is so beautiful city.  I could eat Japanese food because there is Japan Town!  I was so happy.  The delightful four weeks was over all really too soon.  CHI members are sooooooo good!  We are close friends, so we promised to meet in Japan after we go back to Japan. haha!  I’m sick for them.

 

   I left Sacremento to Indiana.  I could not walk because it is so far!lol  Just one month ago I came here.  I had to go to school the next day when I arrived here because my school had already started while I have stayed in California.  I’ve had a lot on my plate.  There was a CHI orientation for exchange students in Indiana.  It was just playing with many foreign exchange students.  There were some exchange students to go to same school! so I talked to them and we became friends.  It was not trouble to make friends in my school life!  I worried about that in Japan but I could make friends on my first day.  Maybe I am being able to keep up with each classes.  At first, I could not understand what were we doing on U.S. History class but I  can understand what we are doing and I like that class so much now.  Chorus is the most interesting class. I am surprised so many materials but maybe they reflect my grade, so I am doing my best.  Anyway! I’m enjoying my school life.  Host family is way too kind so I have no complaint!  However, I will must change my host family soon because my host mother is pregnant.  I’m so sad.  I heard about that on first day when I came here, I was very surprised.  This and that, I gonna go to my friend’s birthday party and picnic with my host family. I’m looking forward to joining them!  I miss Japan but I can spend confidently in America because there are no people who I know, so I think it is one of the good points to study abroad.  It is secret only here that I spent confidently in Japan, too.lol
