カナダに留学中の今井真子さんから、五回目の留学報告が届きました

 

こんにちは！みなさんお元気ですか？私は元気にしています。私の町、ここラッセルの今日の気温は６度です。雪が解けて、春の匂いを感じます。春はもうすぐです！…ということは、もうすぐ夏ですね。私が日本に戻る日ももうすぐです。今年は一年が本当に短く感じました。

２月に素敵な経験をしました！私と３人のバンドメンバーでブランドンで行われた“オーナーバンドコンサート”に参加してきました！そのコンサートはジョイントコンサートの一種です。バンドをやっている多くの生徒がこのコンサートに参加しに来ていましたので、大変大きなコンサートでした！１学期の私のバンドの授業の生徒数はたった１６人で、フレンチホルン奏者は私だけでした。２学期になってからは、生徒数はたった７人になってしまいました！しかし、オーナーバンドは“７人のフレンチホルン奏者”がいました！！想像できますかこんなにも小さなバンドを？カナダにこんなにも大きなバンドがあるだなんて想像できなかったので、コンサートに参加したことはとてもワクワクして楽しい思い出となりました！日本でも何かのバンドに参加したいです！おそらく大学でということになると思いますが。ところで、Tシャツに書いてある文が“音楽がなければ、人生はビーフラットだ（人生はつまらない）”でした。面白くないですか？私は気に入りました（笑）。

話題を変えます。この間、日本語を女の子たちに教えたんですよ。彼女たちは小学４年生から６年生の子たちで、“ガールズガイド”というワークショップの一環でした。その日に、他の人たちも言語を教えに来ていました。おそらくドイツ語とフランス語だったと思います。私たちはそれぞれの言語で５つの単語を教えて、歌を歌い、ゲームをしました。“アイカーリー”というテレビドラマを知ってますか？私が教えた女の子たちははその番組を見て、“こんにちは”を知っていたんです！私は“きらきら星”を教えました。その歌を教えている時、その子たちが笑っているんです。「どうして笑っているの？」と聞くと、彼女たちは“ほし（星）”が“ホース（馬）”に聞こえるって言うんです。彼女たちが言うには“晴れた日で、空には雲はなく、夜に空を見上げると、きらきら輝く馬！”ということでした。空に光り輝く馬がいることを想像できますか？面白いですよね…。

２月２３日は私の誕生日でした！ホストファミリーがその時家にそろっていなかったので、３月に盛大な誕生日パーティーをしました。私は友達を招待して、遅くまでホラー映画を観て楽しみました。楽しかったです！ところで、彼らは鼻をつまんでスプーンでわさびを食べているんです。私は“えっ！？何をしているの！？”という反応しかできませんでした。私はわさびをそのように（罰ゲームのように）使ったことはありませんでしたし、そういう使い方も聞いたことがありませんでした！日本のみなさんはそのような使い方をしますか？

この間の金曜日から日曜日にかけて、私は忙しくしていました。イースターだったんです！私の弟たち（以前に言っていませんでしたっけ？今ホストファミリーの家では３人の男の子を養っています。彼らは養子です）はイースターバニーから何かもらえることを首を長くして待っています。でも私は聖歌隊と料理で忙しかったです。でもイースターバニーは私のところにもちゃんと来てくれました！彼はなんというかサンタクロースみたいなものですね。チョコレートと一緒にちょっとしたプレゼントをもらいました。楽しい時間を過ごせましたし、カトリックの教会のミサは面白かったです！イースターには合同教会（プロテスタント系）には行くことはできませんでしたが、そこには前に行ったことがありました。この写真（私と女性が紫色のコッターを着て葉っぱを持っている）は、イースターの際の合同教会の物です。この女性は聖歌隊の時の一番の仲良しです！この教会の聖歌隊のメンバーはみなさん、ご高齢の方々です。ですが、彼女たちは私の大好きな人たちです！実を言うと、若い子たちといるよりも彼女たちと一緒にいる方が好きなんですよね（笑）。両方の聖歌隊のメンバーは私に、オルガンの伴奏も歌もとてもよく頑張っていると言ってくれます。そして、“もう一年ここにいたらいいじゃない、マコにここにいてほしいわ！日本に帰ると寂しくなるわ！”と言ってくれます。…もう一年ここにいてもいいですか？

そしてもう一つお伝えすることがありました！私たちは学校の合唱で“君をのせて”を歌うことになりました！私たちはすでにドイツ語とアフリカの言語で合唱をしましたので、私が日本の歌を歌うことを提案しました！今からすごーく楽しみです。

Hi! How are you guys doing? I’m good. Russell (My town)’s Today’s temperature was 6℃. Snow is melting, and can feel smell of spring. Spring is coming soon! …Means summer is also coming with the day to go back to Japan. 12 months is too short for me!

I had great experience in February! I and 3 other band-members joined to “Honour Band Concert” in Brandon! It was kind of joint concert. A lot of band-students came to join this. It was big concert! My band class in the first semester had only 16 people, and French-Horn player was only me. Especially in second semester, we are only 7! But Honour Band had “7 French-Horn player”!!! Can you imagine this in such a small band!? I have never thought Canada has a big band like this, so it was very excited and fun! I want to join band again in Japan! Probably at university. By the way, the sentence on the T-shirt is “Without music, Life would B♭(be flat)”. …isn’t it funny? I love it haha

Next thing, I taught Japanese to some girls! They are in grade 4 to 6. It was kind of workshop, and it is called “Girls Guide”. On that day, some other people also came to teach language. I think it was German and French. We taught 5 words, a song, and a game in each language. Do you know “I Carly”? Girls knew “Konnichiwa” from that TV show! I taught “twinkle twinkle little star”. When I taught it, girls were laughing. What are you laughing at? I said. Then they told me HOSHI(star) sounds “horses”! She said “…It was beautiful day. And clear sky. At night, I looked up the sky. There were twinkle HORSES!” Can you imagine that there is shining horses in the sky? Oh, it was so funny… 

February 23rd was my birthday! Some member of my host family was not here, so we had a big birthday party in March. I invited friends, and we stayed up so late with horror movies. It was fun! They eat a full spoon of wasabi when they stuck on their nose, by the way. I was just like “…What!?” I’ve never use wasabi like that! I’ve never heard it neither! Does anybody do this in Japan?

Last Friday to Sunday, we were busy. Because it was Easter! My boys (Did I tell about this? Now we are feeding 3 boys. They are foster kids) were just looking forward to get something from Easter bunny, but I was busy about choir and cooking. But easter bunny came for me too! He is just like Santa Claus. He gave me some present with chocolate! It was good time, and the Catholic church’s mass was interesting! I could not go to United church choir for Easter, but I went to there before it. This picture- that I and lady who wear purple cotter and having leaf, this is United church thing for Easter. This lady is my best friend in this choir! This church’s all choir member is old ladies. But they are my favourite people! And I like to be with them more than being with young people actually, haha… Both church-choir members says I’m doing well about playing the Organ and singing, and “Why don’t you stay for another year, we’re going to keep you! We are going to miss you!” …May I stay here another year?

And one more thing! We are going to sing 君をのせて in school choir! We have learned German and African language in choir, so I suggested Japanese song! I’m sooooooo excited<3
