My Experiences in Australia 

I went to study abroad one month in Adelaide in Australia.  It was wonderful time for me.  I reached the first day, I still didn’t believe it, but when I met my host mother in the airport, I finally became to believe that my study abroad has started.  My host family was only host mother who is 68 years old.  She works as teacher in weekdays and designer in weekends, and she learns dance, so I learned it together.  It was difficult for me, but teacher was kind, so I enjoyed it!  She has two cats, they like people.  She told me English when my English was wrong.  Thanks to her, I remember some words in English.  She likes the beach, so we often went to some beaches.  The beach of Adelaide was beautiful.  My host mother’s studio which she works as designer was near by Rundle Mall (the biggest city in Adelaide), so after school, I always went to there and did shopping with taking a bus from my school, then I was picked up by my host mother.

I went to high school of Adelaide, Unley High School.  There were many students studying abroad, and I often saw Japanese student.  I became friend with two Japanese girls who started to go to Unley High School, and there were other two Japanese students in my class.  However, it was not only Japanese but also local student.  It was very nervous to talk to local student, but they were really kind people, so I was helped by them.  I went to Cleland Wildlife Park (zoo) and Central Market as the excursion.  It became wonderful memory for me!  In the physical class, I had nice friends.  They were really kind, and we talked about Japan.  They said to me “We’ll never forget you!  We’re best friend!”  I’ll never forget them too!  My favorite place of my school is certain.  It was very big, and look like convenience store, so student can get any foods, any drinks, and sweets!  I often went to there at lunch time.  In lunch time, students have to go out to eat lunch.  It was very cold, but feel was good.  Therefore, it’s not just one thing that I was surprised.  The school rule was far laxer than Japanese!  For example, students can polish own nail any color, so I was polished my nail red by professor.  Students can wear any accessory, and change own hair any color.  In addition, the length of the uniform’s skirt was very short!!  In class, students played with Snap chat, and sent the picture each other, and watched some videos with You-Tube!  I was very surprised that students were free.  I took classes of English, Math, Science, History, Art, Design, P.E.  Math class was easier than Japan.  In the last day of my school day, my friends said to me “It’s the last day for you… don’t leave here…”  I didn’t want to leave Adelaide too, and I love Unley High School and my friends!  However, my home group teacher forgot that it was the last day, but he gave me presents.

I experienced many things in Adelaide, and I found many difference of culture between Japan and Australia.  I thank for all of people who were connected to my study abroad!!!

　私は１ヵ月間、オーストラリアのアデレードで留学をしてきました。その１ヵ月間は私にとってとても素晴らしいものになりました。初日を迎えても私は全く実感がわいていませんでしたが、現地の空港でホストファミリーと対面したときに、やっと実感がわきました。私のホストファミリーは６８歳のホストマザーのみでした。彼女は教師とデザイナーをしています。そしてダンスを習っていたので、私も一緒に習いに行きましたが、とても難しくて大変でした。でも先生がとても優しかったので楽しかったです。家には２匹の人懐っこい猫もいました。マザーは私の英語が間違っているときには正しい言い方を教えてくれたので、そのおかげでいくつかの言い回しや正しい言い方も覚えました。マザーはビーチが好きだったので、２人でよくビーチに行きました。アデレードのビーチはとても綺麗でした。マザーがデザイナーとして働くスタジオがRundle Mall (アデレードで1番大きな街)に近かったので、私は放課後にいつも学校からバスに乗って街へ行き、お買い物をしてから、マザーに迎えに来てもらっていました。

　学校ですが、私はUnley High Schoolという現地校に通っていました。その学校には留学生がたくさんいて、日本人もよく見かけました。私はまず、同じ日に通い始めた日本人の女の子２人と仲良くなりました。同じクラスにも日本人が２人いました。ですが友達は日本人だけではありません。現地の生徒に話しかけるのはとても勇気がいりましたが、みんな優しくしてくれて、とても助かりました。学校の遠足として、Cleland Wildlife Park(動物園のようなところです)とCentral Marketに行き、私にとって素敵な思い出となりました！化学の授業では、仲良くしてくれた女の子が2人いて、彼女たちはとっても優しく、日本の話もしました。｢あなたの事は絶対に忘れない！親友だからね！｣とも言ってくれました。私も彼女たちの事は絶対に忘れません！私が学校の中で気に入っていた場所は、購買です。海外の学校の購買はとても大きくて、まるでコンビニのようで、どんな食べ物も飲み物もスイーツも手に入りました。私はお昼休みにしょっちゅう購買に通っていました(笑)　お昼休みは、生徒は校舎の外でお昼を食べなければなりません。とても寒かったですが、気持ち良かったです。さらに、私が驚いたのはこれだけではありません。私の学校の校則は、日本よりもはるかに緩かったのです！たとえば、ネイルは何色に塗っても許されていたので、私はネイリストさんに赤色に塗ってもらいました。アクセサリーだって、どんな物を着けても許されますし、髪の毛も様々な色をした生徒がいました。しかも、授業中には友達同士でSnapchatを送りあったり、ユーチューブで動画を観たりしていました。私は生徒たちがとても自由にしていて驚きました。授業は、英語、数学、理科、歴史、美術、デザイン、保健体育を受けていました。数学は日本よりも簡単でした。学校に通う最後の日は、友達がみんな｢帰らないで･･･｣と言ってくれました。私も帰りたくなかったですし、Unley High Schoolが大好きです。ですが、私の担任の先生は私がその日で最後だということを忘れていました。(笑)　ですが最後にはちゃんとプレゼントをくれましたよ。(笑)

 アデレードで私はたくさんの経験をしました。そして日本とオーストラリアの文化の違いもたくさん見つけました。私は、この私の留学に関わってくれた人全員にたくさん感謝します！
