Hello! This is Sasara Hattori in North Dakota! I can’t believe this it’s already February!
About this time last year I was always wonder when I can know my host family, I had lot of vaccinated and I went to Kyoto as trip to make memories before going to study abroad. It was still like in preparation. I was thinking I have half more year, but as soon as I thought the day was coming that I departure date and I was leaving. However, time few so fast I can’t believe that I already spend 6 month and I will back to home only 4 month later. I think many 5G member who think that same things. I again realized that this time is very important for me.
By the way, it’s 2017! And I turned 17 years old. I could feel thank you for giving birth to me and thank you for bringing me up at 2016.
And I thought it is American Christmas is different with japan. Because before 1 month ago they pray many Christmas music every days and we did lot of holiday baking we made cookies and truffles it was so fun. And we opened Christmas presents on December 24th and I got the many presents. I did few presents for my host family they liked it so I was happy. and Christmas day we went to host family’s grandmother’s house. We did some games and we got some presents that was so fun!
And my birth day we went to eat and after that we back to home and my host family surprised and gave me presents and birth day cake! They makes me happy.
How’s Hokkaido’s temp? Did you know the grand forks is the coldest town in America. Every day the town has like -20 degrees. When I went to outside at morning my nose like frozen! Lol
I went to Omaha to watch UND hockey games it was taking 14 hours. It was so much fun!
These days, school’s going good it’s feels classes done so soon because I’m enjoying every day. And I feeling last day will coming soon. And my best friend Shuwang will back to china soon I’m so sad but we promised we’ll meet at china someday. So I’m exciting. And these days I and my host brother are so good friends. We used be so quiet on the car but now we are talking and laughing and singing. If I got the tired at school he makes me happy.
And I and my host sister making plan for our trip, and if we have time we are going to eat ice cream and go to gym together. We are enjoying to do somethings together.
And I am hooked on the TV show that called once upon a time with host mother and host father. I’m satisfied that I could enjoying something with my host family every days.
It is so sad that I have to say goodbye to my host family only 4 month later. But my host family always say we will meet at the Tokyo Olympic. I’m appreciate that I could meet awesome host family and many friends. And I’m so happy because my friends always told me, you should come back any time! Don’t back to home!
See you next report!!!

Hi guys!

Hey I’m himari from Jackson, AL. How are y’all going?? I still can’t believe this report is already the third one. I am always thinking that I need more time… a year is really short!!! I just want to tell people who are gonna go study abroad I swear this is true…you must make much of time. Time is money… anyway I have many stories from my second report so I don’t know what I should tell yall lol well… I know Christmas was one of the biggest events of all. I had never spent Christmas without snow before. That was kinda weird tho lol there were a lots of presents under the Christmas tree and me and my sister talked about like “Can you guess what it is” “Whose is the biggest box”. And also we decorated our house for Christmas. We got up at around 6 am Christmas morning then opened the presents. It was really fun and made me so happy. I got shoes, boots, some clothes, jewelry and so on. I was surprised that we don’t have a cake for dinner lol you know I ate too much tho… on the other hand, people in here didn’t care about New Year lol I thought so because I went to my friend’s house and a new year had already started while we played a game, talked or something like that. I really missed “Gakitsuka” at the time.
We came back to school on 4th January I think. I need more break tho lol anyway the second semester had started so we got new classes, of course new classmates. I’m taking Human Body on 1st block, 11th grade English on 2nd, basketball practice on 3rd, and FACS on 4th. I think people around me are such a sweet and nice guys from the bottom of my heart for real. They explained more clearly when I couldn’t understand even if they are younger than me. They can understand about me lol I really proud of them.
I want to tell yall about basketball so much. The season of that have stared since middle of November. And now we got very important game next week. If we lose that game, the season is over… I absolutely cry if we do. Because I love basketball, my sweet teammates and hard game schedule like three games in a week lol I will miss them. When I scored and came back bench, teammates gave me high-five or they touched my bon and said “Good job Himari”. I like home game because everyone including audience will get excited like they were standing, clapping their hands and calling my name when I made 3 points shot lol I felt like star player lol just joking I’m not lmao we did the game which is also very important one for us. And that was really close game. We won anyway but I cried after the game because I can’t play basketball with them anymore if we lost so I was happy and relieved lol teammates gave me hug and said why are you crying? Are you happy? It’s okay Himari we won!! (o^-^o) that’s why I love this team. And also thanks to basketball, I could make many friends. The day after the game, we always talked about how many we scored lol Anyway the season isn’t over yet so I’ll do my best. Finally, I really want to tell you this story. The other day, one of the basketball boys broke the basketball ring lmao I thought he tried to dunk lol I was like oh my gosh… are you kidding me!?!? when I saw it. I was very surprised anyway lol
Thank you for reading my report. See you next time!!!!!!

Hi everyone. How are you? I’m Yuna, in New York. It is cold but I feel like a spring of Hokkaido! I can’t believe that half of study abroad have already over.
First I’m going to talk about trip to New York City on December, which was first time to go. It was one of event in the choir of school which I’m taking. I went to there for six hours by the bus. The view of NYC was so beautiful, which I can’t see in Japan, it was like in a movie. I remember I was so excited on that time. After we arrived, we had free time in a group. Our group went to Times Square, M&M’s world and so on. After free time, we watched the pop’s orchestra concert at the Carnegie Hall which is known one of famous music hall in NYC. It was so wonderful concert and beautiful inside the hall. I extraordinary experienced with my friends in this trip!
I want to introduce something I’m having fun. I have met many exchange student in program I’m using. I met them at Christmas party though that program. We brought cookies and exchange them, it is called cookie exchange. We did talk a lot, about study abroad life or country. Everybody speaks English naturally even first language isn’t English. That is interesting to me because it’s so great thing that you can communicate with people from all over the world. I think funny that most of exchange students have strong accent when we speak. haha We often hang out together since we met. We have ever had a new year’s party, been to ice hockey game…so far. I think making exchange student friends is one of good thing you can do during sturdy abroad.
I have spent half of year since I came America. I’m sure my English skill is improving compare to when I came. But I don’t think I have enough skill which I wish I could. I thought that the most important thing in sturdy abroad is thinking yourself. I will think what I should do.
Ps, I decided to play lacrosse for next season which is after cheer season so I’m so excited!
I want to talk about that on next report.
Thank you for reading!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late report…
It was a busy 2 months and there were so many things happened, such as Christmas, New Year and Semester Exam!
First, I will tell you a little new thing about the Christmas.
We did Chanukah instead of Christmas. Chanukah is a Jewish traditional celebration for Christmas. We have 8 days of prayer and presents! Each person has their own day to get a present. Its really exciting! My host family is a Christian but they wanted to try the different way! It made me feel that the biggest event in America is Christmas.
At school, we had a Secret Santa present exchange. It is a way to exchange present that you don’t know who is it from but we have 3 days and the last they they will give it to you from face to face! It was fun and I made new friend from that!
Its 2017!!!!!! Happy New Year! The new year celebration in America was so quiet and we didn’t really have with the family. We stayed at home and watched the countdown live in the Las Vegas strip.
The last one is semester exam. I though it was going to be so hard but all of the class had a open book or open note book option so I fell like I got all the answers during the test. It was easier than I was thinking.
Once again it is really different between Japan and America.
Its going to be February and I have only 4 more months to go!
Time flies that make me feel like 1 month is as fast as one day!
I will keep up myself and try to be active in everything!

Happy New Year! It’s Hitomi. I’m sorry for the delay in the report. It’s 2017! Minnesota is an hour behind New York, so we sat in front of the TV, and we celebrated the 2016’s 11 o’clock that adjust to New Year of New York. I was surprised by we had a Christmas party at the New Year day. I felt difference between Japanese and American culture. Mr. Santa gave me an instant camera as a Christmas present for me. I’m so happy!! I want to take lots of pictures with this camera.
As I wrote in the last report, I belong to the Nordic Skiing. I hate skiing, but Nordic Skiing doesn’t have to down the steep hill, so I’m enjoying it. Now my legs are getting thick with muscles. I became to feel jeans tight which I bought in japan. By the way, I went to skating with my friends last week. I think skating is more enjoyable than skiing. After that, we went to the Chinese food buffet. It was a wallet-friendly for exchange student because it was only 15 bucks. I ate too much. During the winter vacation I went to snowshoeing, making scones, watching DVDs, taking pictures, and play game a lot with my family and friends. And my life which in the U.S. is only 4 months and half left. When 5 months had passed since I came here, I became homesick, but I called up my mother, so I’m okay now. I must go back to japan in June, so I want to enjoy my rest of the time!

Hey guys! I feel it’s still “3rd” term but already 4 month have passed in 3 of my terms. I’ve wrote about halloween and my high school before, right?
This time, i’m going to write about my thanksgiving day and christmas also some episodes which I enjoyed( ˇωˇ )
On Nov,24 was thanksgiving day and also my birthday, ALSO MY BIRTHDAY( I said 2 times cuz it’s important)
In the morning, my host mom made holiday cooking! waffles, cinnamon
rolls, sausages… it looked so nice:))
After that, we went to aunt Becky’s and we were eating and watching football games on TV, just like relaxing. Especially my host dad looks super excited about the game and he screamed once in 20 min haha.
When we arrived, we started eating thanksgiving dinner. There were turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, corn and also my host mom made me birthday cake because she known I don’t like store’s cake because it’s too sweet for me.
Before eating the cake, everyone sang me the birthday song and in the part where we sing my name, it heard funny cuz everyone pronounced my name different haha.
i got makeup stuff from host mom, lady gaga’s dad’s cookbook of his restaurant from Becky and chess, touchscreen gloves and i don’t know why but there are GOT 7’s socks from uncle Alex. This is the K-pop group which Anna loves. Not me haha.
I’m really enjoying this exchange year but actually my host dad got heart attack on first of December and he has entered the hospital like 2 days. This was because he took too much salt.(´
Alex, Anna, my brother Devlin, Jordan and I went to the hospital at the night. He looked fine at the hospital and I’m glad this period of hospitalization was short.
There was a Japanese restaurant near by the hospital and we went to there for dinner. When I watching the menue, Jordan asked me “what is the KATSU meaning?” and I answered it means something fried and then, he made the word “boy katsu”. i don’t even know why but he made this word. i thought “is it something anime things?” but it’s not. it’s meaning just “fried boy”. Well, if he understand the katsu meaning, I’m glad
On the way home, he showed me some videos of an american youtuber. His video was like teaching Japanese words and he teaches us only weird or funny japanese and I laughed hard with his video. If you are bored, check “Filthy Frank” on you tube.
Thanks to him, Jordan can speak japanese a little bit. like “die” “I wanna die” “My name is boy katsu”
I joined a winter activity which ASSE michigan group planed. We went to the Henry Ford museum and it was amazing!! It mainly display old transportation, like cars, aircrafts and trains.
There was a huge black train, and we tried to have some picture with it and asked a women to take us pictures. After that, the woman returned us a camera and said “This is so old things and you guys might not touch it. you should respect old stuff(`Δ´)!” and we were like I’m so sorry but thanks for taking pictures for us. I’ll show you this valuable picture lol
Also i and Anna did christmas party with exchange students which in same high school at our house. We can’t meet together so often so I was glad to meet every exchange students in the long time. There were german, Austrian, Danish, Finnish, Kazakh, Swiss and Japanese and I felt studying in the U.S. means not only interact with American, it means interact with all countries.
The other day was Christmas!!! before christmas, I was asked by people “Do you have christmas in your country?” million times. some of my friend who are exchange student were asked same question, either lol
I think eating KFC christmas day is the only things japanese to do. Everyone was like “Eating KFC!!???” I think this is because Japanese doesn’t eat big turkey or huge chicken but they like to do something American so they make do with KFC.
On the eve day, I and Anna decorated cookies and it we really enjoyed decorating first few minute but when we finished decorating 4 or 5 cookies, we got bored with doing it.
On the Christmas day, family gathered at our house and we opened christmas presents each other and I got too many stuff also I was surprised because most of them were lady gaga goods!! There were 2 lady gaga jacket,a sweater, a t shirt and a CD. Maybe i can coordinate with only lady gaga stuff haha.
Also Anna got a BTS’s album and some their goods. They are also her favorite K-pop group and she looked super happy. Maybe we have to go to school putting on their stuff;)
These are my experiences during Nov and Dec. Temperature is getting cold but other day was so warm and there is no snow now but then it’s getting cold again. I know Sapporo has too many snow now and I hope you guys don’t get cold.
In next term, I would like to write about new year and Florida trip and now what am I excited about is…… Super ball!!!! I mean, half time show cuz this time, lady gaga will perform at super ball!!(((((└(:D」┌)┘)))))))
See you next my term and happy new year(^^)
